Die Free Software Foundation Europe nimmt den Kampf gegen proprietäre Software zur Darstellung von PDF-Dokumenten wieder auf. Die Aktivisten fordern öffentliche Einrichtungen in Europa auf, nicht länger für Adobe Reader & Co zu werben, schließlich gebe es genügend freie Alternativen.

"Jedes Mal wenn eine staatliche Webseite auf unfreie Software verlinkt und Besucher dazu anhält, diese zu benutzen, werden die Bürger unnötigerweise dazu ermuntert, ihre Freiheit wegzuwerfen", argumentiert FSFE-Präsident Karsten Gerloff. Er verweist auf die FSFE-Website pdfreaders.org, die freie PDF-Reader für Windows, Linux und Mac OS X aufführt.

"Was würden Sie davon halten, wenn es auf der Autobahn ein Schild gäbe, auf dem stünde: 'Sie müssen einen Volkswagen besitzen, um auf dieser Straße zu fahren. Kontaktieren Sie Ihren Volkswagen-Händler für eine kostenlose Probefahrt'? Bei PDF-Readern scheinen die Regierungen der Meinung zu sein, dass dies zulässig ist", vergleicht Matthias Kirschner, Fellowship-Koordinator der FSFE.

Die FSFE stört sich daran, dass die Hinweise auf den Adobe Reader auf Webseiten von Regierung und Verwaltung den proprietären Produkten einen unfairen Wettbewerbsvorteil verschaffen. Oft werde der Eindruck erweckt, die genannte Software stelle die einzig vorhandene Option dar.

Daher ruft die FSFE nun dazu auf, möglichst viele Webseiten mit Empfehlungen für proprietäre PDF-Reader zu sammeln und unter fsfe.org/campaigns/pdfreaders/pdfreaders.de.html einzureichen. Die Suche beginnt am heutigen 13. September und geht bis zum 17. Oktober 2010. Ende Oktober werden Preise an die Teilnehmer und Gruppen verliehen, die die höchste Anzahl von Werbungen für proprietäre Software auf Regierungswebseiten gefunden haben.

Zugleich startet die FSFE eine Petition für die Entfernung von Werbung für unfreie Software auf den Webseiten der Regierungen.

The program lets you page forward or backward or jump to pages and then either right-click or choose a button to assign bookmarks. Before you save the pdf file you can choose the pdf view, such as whether to have the bookmarks visible by default or not. 1.Verify The Digital Signature
 
Foxit Reader 4.2 now features a PDF digital signature verification technology which uses an enhanced, yet ISO 32000 compliant, verification process that ensures the signature is real and neither the document nor the signature have been compromised. This new verification process provides a secure and reliable platform for exchanging electronics documents without putting the user at risk from falsified documents. 2.Enhance Security With ASLR & DEP Support

Foxit Reader 4.2 continues to add features that increase security by making it harder for hackers to compromise a PDF document. The current version of the reader includes Address Space Layout Randomization, ASLR, which uses a random algorithm to determine a memory address used to store key file data. A second security feature is Data Execution Prevention, DEP, which simply prevents executing code from a non-executable memory location. ASLR and DEP combine to highly improve Foxit Reader Security and provide a stable platform for enterprise, business and consumer, Foxit Reader users.

Bug Fixes:

1.Fixed the issue where Foxit Reader crashes if the headline of the PDF content exceeds 512 bytes.

2.Fixed the issue where the ¡°delete¡± option in the right-click popup menu is unavailable when right-clicking the link created by the link tool.

3.Fixed the issue where Foxit Reader will pop up two tabs when opening a same PDF file which is targeted by two links, one is created with relative path and the other one is with absolute path.

doPDF 7.1 build 346 was released with only 2 minor fixes: we corrected the Romanian translation (which was working 2 builds ago, but then it reverted last build so we had to re-correct the ... correction); second fix is related to document conversion from Microsoft Publisher 2010 - a combination of characters was not converted correctly, but now it is. So download is recommended only for users affected by these 2 fixes mentioned.
