Classic Theme Restorer restores squared tabs, appbutton/appmenu, bookmarks menu button, bookmarks sidebar button, history sidebar button and other buttons from Firefox 4-28 (non-Australis) on Firefox 29+ (Austalis UI - Windows, MacOSX, Linux).

All buttons are fully optional. Some of them have to be moved to toolbars manually using browsers 'customize' area.

Nachdem Browser-Plug-ins kaum noch eine Rolle spielen, will Google ab April in Chrome deren Unterstützung beenden - was nicht jeder richtig findet.

Nur noch einer von 27 Chrome-Anwendern stolpert im Lauf eines Monats über ein Java-Applet. Auch bei Silverlight, den Video-Chat-Plug-ins Google Talk und Facebook Video oder der Spiele-Engine Unity zeigt die Nutzungskurve steil nach unten, meldet Google in seinem Zwischenfazit beim Kampf gegen die alte Browser-Plug-in-Schnittstelle NPAPI.

Noch führt Chrome die genannten Plug-ins (außer Java) per Default aus, doch ab Januar werden auch sie nur noch nach Aktivierung durch den Nutzer laufen – und ab April gar nicht mehr. Ein letztes Schlupfloch, das Flag enable-npapi, will Google im September 2015 schließen. Unter Linux ist bereits Schluss, auf dem Mac dürften wegen der Umstellung auf 64 Bit nur noch wenige NPAPI-Plug-ins laufen.

Werbevermarkter und Medienunternehmen wehren sich gerichtlich gegen den AdblockPlus-Betreiber Eyeo. Doch die Vorsitzende Richterin am Landgericht München sah einige Klagepunkte skeptisch.

Einen erbitterten Schlagabtausch lieferten sich heute vor dem Münchner Landgericht Vertreter von Pro Siebens Seven-One Media, RTL Interactive sowie vom Werbevermarkter IP Deutschland mit dem AdblockPlus Betreiber Eyeo. Die Medien-Unternehmen wehren sich gegen die aus ihrer Sicht wettbewerbswidrige Kombination von freiem Werbeblocker für Internetnutzer und kostenpflichtigem Platz auf der Whitelist für die Werber. Die Vorsitzende Richterin zeigte sich allerdings bei einer Reihe von Punkten der Klage skeptisch. Von einer Marktbeherrschung gehe die Kammer aktuell nicht aus, sagte sie. Eine Irreführung der Nutzer durch das Adblockplus-Konzept mochte sie auch nicht feststellen.

Die beiden Münchner Verfahren machten den Auftakt für eine Reihe weiterer: In Köln klagt der Springer-Verlag, in Hamburg Die Zeit. Die Münchner Kläger kündigten praktisch das Aus für kostenlose werbefinanzierte Inhalte an, wenn ihre Bewegtbildwerbung per Adblocker als inakzeptabel ausgefiltert wird oder sie die von Eyeo an den Werbeeinnahmen beteiligen muss, um auf die Whitelist zu gelangen. Immerhin 30 Prozent will Eyeo, zumindest von den großen Unternehmen.

"Raubrittertum"

Von regelrechtem "Raubrittertum“ sprach der Anwalt von Seven-One Media, Stefan Engels. Eyeos Vertreter konterten mit dem Hinweis, dass selbst Bundesministerien und Medienanstalten Adblocker empfehlen und letztlich der Nutzer entscheide, was er sehen wolle.

Wettbewerbsrechtsrechtlich angreifbar sind nach dem Dafürhalten der Kläger unter anderem, dass es unterschiedliche "Deals“ für verschiedene Unternehmen gebe, finanziell und bei der Bewertung von textbasierter versus Bewegtbild-Werbung. Google, das den textbasierten Werbemarkt dominiere, mache natürlich mit und werde "hofiert“, wetterte der Geschäftsführer von SevenOne Media, Thomas Port. Dabei seien werbefinanzierte kostenlose Angebote ein Deal, den viele Nutzer durchaus gut fänden, sagte Engels. Das Wettbewerbsrecht müsse dieses Geschäftsmodell auch schützen,

Wettbewerbsverhältnis oder Nicht-Wettbewerbsverhältnis?

Aus Sicht der Kammer ist das noch nicht klar. Die kostenlose Verteilung des Adblockers sei keine geschäftliche Handlung, die Aufnahme auf die Whitelist erst einmal ein Angebot. Der Klägerin werde damit praktisch „eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit eröffnet, hier Werbung schalten zu können,“ so die Richterin. Inwieweit es dabei eine Rolle spiele, dass die Beklagte vorher durch die Software für die Filterung gesorgt habe, erwäge das Gericht noch. Würde das Gericht jedoch entscheiden, dass Eyeo und die Medien-Unternehmen gar nicht ein einem Wettbewerbsverhältnis stehen , wären alle wettbewerbsrechtlichen Ansprüche tot. Ausschließen wollte das die Richterin nicht.

Eine „mittelbare Beeinträchtigung“ der Kläger könnte immerhin daraus erwachsen, dass Eyeo mit seinem Konzept Nutzern praktisch Beihilfe dazu leistet, dass aus werbefinanzierten Kostenlos-Inhalten nicht mehr finanzierte Inhalte würden. Jedoch hätten die Besucher mit dem Besuch der Webseite allein diesem Geschäftsmodell noch nicht zugestimmt, so das Gericht.

Noch einige offene Fragen

Die Informationsfreiheit sah die Kammer ebenfalls nicht berührt. Noch nicht geäußert haben sich die Richterinnen andererseits zu den Beschwerden von SevenOne Media, dass auch das Urheberrecht und das Datenbankschutzrecht verletzt würden. Letztlich würde in den Aufbau der komplexen Seiten, wie sie die Anbieter entwickelt hätten, eingegriffen. Auch die Auskunftsrechte gegenüber Eyeo waren in der mündlichen Verhandlung kein Thema. Gut gewesen wäre es, so die Vorsitzende Richterin, wenn der Quellcode vorgelegen hätte. Das hätte der Bestimmtheit der Klage gedient.

Entscheiden will die Kammer trotz des ziemlick dicken Akts und des beträchtlichen Streitwerts von 1 Million Euro im Fall RTL und 2,5 Millionen Euro im Fall SevenOne Media bereits im März.
