Nachdem Anfang Februar die Pläne mehrerer Werbevermarkter bekannt geworden waren, gegen den lästigen Werbeblocker Adblock Plus technisch und juristisch vorzugehen, macht United Internet nun Nägel mit Köpfen. Auf den Webseiten der Tochterunternehmen web.de und GMX bekommen Nutzer einen vermeintlichen Sicherheitshinweis angezeigt, der vor "seitenmanipulierenden Add-ons" warnt und die Nutzer auffordert, diese zu deinstallieren.

Mit HttpWatch kann man sich anzeigen lassen, was alles geladen/aufgerufen wird (inkl. Ladezeiten), wenn man eine Internetseite öffnet. Dazu installiert sich das Programm als Erweiterung in den Firefox bzw. IE. Mit einem Rechtsklick im Browser bekommt man die Möglichkeit, das Programm und anschl. die Aufzeichnung zu starten. Neben der Free-Version bietet der Hersteller noch eine Pro-Edition an, die mit 395$ aber eher nicht für den Privatanwender gedacht ist.

Nach heftiger Kritik an irreführenden Sicherheitshinweisen macht der Konzern einen halben Rückzieher, will aber weiter daran arbeiten Adblocker zu umgehen.

Mit irreführenden Sicherheitshinweisen, die sich insbesondere gegen die Nutzer von Werbeblockern richteten, sorgte der Mutterkonzern von GMX und Web.de in dieser Woche für herbe Kritik. Seit Freitagabend jedoch werden die Besucher der Seiten nur noch gewarnt, wenn sie so genannte Adware installiert haben. Die Kampagne soll aber weitergehen.
