Wer wissen will, auf welchen Seiten beim alltäglichen Surfen Spuren bleiben, der kann sich das von der Firefox-Erweiterung Lightbeam visuell aufbereiten lassen. Lightbeam ist ein Nachfolger für Collusion und wurde im Rahmen des Mozilla Festival zum Download bereitgestellt.

Die Erweiterung wertet die gespeicherten Cookies aus und bereitet die Daten grafisch auf. In einem eigenen Firefox-Tab zeigt Lightbeam dann, welche Seiten Nutzungsdaten an Dritte weiterreichen. Zusätzlich zeigt die Erweiterung, wo die jeweiligen Web-Server stehen.

Die Webseiten des Fürther Verlags Computec sind seit heute mit einer neuen Technik ausgestattet, die Adblocker überwindet. Ist beispielsweise im Browser des Nutzers einer der gängigen Plug-Ins wie AdBlock oder AdBlock Plus installiert, wird die Bannerwerbung dennoch eingebendet. Auf den Spiele-Webseiten des Verlags, darunter die von PC Games, kann man sich selbst davon überzeugen.

Dadurch steigen allerdings Traffic und Serverlast der entsprechenden Seiten.
Ob damit verbundenen Mehrkosten über höhere Werbeeinnahmen gedeckt werden können, ist durchaus fraglich.

Immerhin sinkt das Risiko für Besucher etwas, das durch mögliche schädliche eingebundene Inhalte Dritter entsteht.
In Zeiten des Hochgeschwindigkeits-DSL ist das, neben der Vermeidung lästiger bis störender animierter Werbung, einer der Hauptgründe für die Nutzung von Werbeblockern.
Und wahrscheinlich werden so auch etliche Cookies Dritter entfallen.

Flagfox is an extension that displays a flag icon indicating the current webserver's physical location. Knowing where you're connected to adds an extra layer of awareness to your browsing and can be useful to indicate the native languages and legal jurisdictions that may apply. Additional information can be obtained via a multitude of external lookups and users can add their own custom actions. All actions can be added to the flag icon's context menu and set to icon click or keyboard shortcuts for quick access.

Clicking the flag icon loads our default action, Geotool, which gives a detailed map showing the city the server is in and other useful information such as its local time and ISP.

IExif is a simple and free tool to view EXIF information included in digital photography images that you are viewing online using Internet Explorer browser. The IExif is a BHO add-on, compatible with Internet Explorer version 7, 8, 9 and 10. It searches web page for photos, taken by digital cameras and extracts the EXIF data if it is available. It uses the browser's tooltip window to show collected data, when user moves the mouse pointer to the photo image.
