Mein Gott, da musste ich mir wieder den Facepalm geben, als ich vorhin las, was die Redakteure von Golem über BitTorrents neue Alpha-Software namens Share schreiben. Dort wurde ganz plakativ (ppl y u no click???) geschrieben, dass BitTorrent einen Dropbox-Konkurrenten startet. Was natürlich Humbug ist.

Share ist eine Alpha-Software, die bereits im Client von uTorrent eingebaut ist und erweitert das BitTorrent-Netzwerk um privates P2P-Sharing innerhalb geschlossener Gruppen oder eben zweier Menschen. Statt Dropbox und Co wird eben von PC zu PC gesendet. Und – was logisch und das Prinzip von BitTorrent ist: je mehr die Datei innerhalb der Gruppe haben, desto schneller geht es bei einem, der gerade herunterlädt – Seeding galore! Damit das ganze auch ein wenig schneller fluppt, will BitTorrent sogar ein wenig mithelfen:

Ihr seht, eine tolle Möglichkeit, innerhalb geschlossener Gruppen zu sharen, aber meilenweit von Dropbox entfernt. Eigentlich etwas völlig anderes:

- Kein Backup in der Cloud
- Keine Versionierung
- keine Public Links
- Synchronisierung

Trotz alledem ist es eine clevere Sache von den BitTorrent-Machern, eingeloggt und getauscht werden kann via Facebook, man setzt aber trotzdem den eigenen Client voraus. Ob und inwiefern sich das durchsetzt, wird die Zukunft zeigen. Auf BitTorrent setzende Menschen und Gruppen können aber wunderbar innerhalb eines “vertrauten Kreises” sharen. Das, was man irgendwie schon seit Jahren auf privaten Trackern und Co macht.

TorrentControl allows modification of uploaded data amount announced to BitTorrent trackers according to rules. Rules are created automatically when download is started and can be created, modified or deleted manually.
