Der beliebte BitTorrent-Client µTorrent wird demnächst in einer neuen, deutlich erweiterten Version erscheinen. Die Fassung wird derzeit unter dem Codenamen "Falcon" entwickelt.

Auf vier wesentliche neue Features können sich die Nutzer freuen. Das wohl wichtigste ist die Einführung eines Web-Interfaces, über das man von überall mit einem internetfähigen Gerät auf seinen eigenen µTorrent-Client zugreifen kann. Im Browser wird dabei die Oberfläche der Software simuliert.

Über das Interface können neue Torrents hinzugefügt und der Client auf dem heimischen PC gesteuert werden. Möchte man eine fertig heruntergeladene Datei nicht erst zuhause nutzen, kann sie auch direkt auf das Gerät, an dem man gerade sitzt übertragen werden.

Weiterhin wird die Falcon-Webseite eine Funktion namens "Easy Sharing" bieten. Möchte man einem Freund, der selbst keinen BitTorrent-Client besitzt, eine Datei zukommen lassen, die man eben selbst heruntergeladen hat, schickt man ihm einfach einen automatisch generierten Link. Dieser startet dann den Download von eines µTorrent-Installationspaketes, in dem die benötigte Torrent-Datei gleich mitgeliefert wird.

Das dritte wichtige Feature ist eine integrierte Streaming-Funktion. Videos müssen so nicht erst komplett heruntergeladen werden, bevor man sie anschauen kann. Der Client lädt dann vorzugsweise erst die vorderen Teile der Video-Datei herunter und holt sich den Rest, während der User bereits den ersten Teil des Clips anschaut.

Weiterhin soll µTorrent Falcon es direkt erlauben, Inhalte zu finden. Allerdings schweigen sich die Entwickler zu Details noch aus. Voraussichtlich werden sie keine Suchmaschine integrieren, sondern eine Schnittstelle anbieten, an die Betreiber von Torrent-Seiten eine Verbindung zu ihrer Datenbank andocken können.

µTorrent Falcon befindet sich derzeit noch in einer Beta-Phase. Interessierte Nutzer können sich aber bereits für erste Tests der neuen Funktionen anmelden.
