Die Software Tribler unterstützt nun echtes dezentrales Filesharing inklusive Videostreaming. Die in dieser Woche veröffentlichte Version 5.4.1 macht Tracker und Torrent-Dateien unnötig - und filtert Spam aus.

Die Open-Source-Software Tribler 5.3.1 steht bereits für Windows zum Download bereit. Eine Linux-Version ist in Arbeit und auch der Mac-OS-X-Client soll noch auf die 5.3.1 aktualisiert werden. Tribler arbeitet mit Hilfe eines Overlay-Netzwerks nun komplett dezentral. Obwohl für die Datenübertragung noch das Bittorrent-Protokoll genutzt wird, sind Tracker und Torrent-Dateien nicht mehr nötig.

Videostreaming über das Tribler-Netz, auch Live, wird ebenfalls unterstützt, die Wiedergabe erfolgt über den integrierten Videoplayer. Die Inhalte finden Tribler-Nutzer über eine Suchfunktion, die seit der Version 5.3.1 Spam-Ergebnisse ausfiltert - mit automatischer Erkennung und einer manuellen Bewertungsoption. Tribler hat auch Elemente von sozialen Netzwerken, Nutzer können gute Kontakte als Freunde markieren.

Tribler stammt von der technischen Universität Delft und der Universität Amsterdam. Die Filesharing-Software wird mit dem Ziel entwickelt, eine Basis für ein offenes, für jeden zugängliches und auch kommerziell nutzbares dezentrales Filesharing-Netz zu schaffen. Die Arbeit der beiden Universitäten wird im Rahmen eines von der EU geförderten Peer-to-Peer-Förderprogramms P2P Next finanziell unterstützt.

FrostWire is an peer-to-peer file sharing program for the Gnutella and BitTorrent protocols. FrostWire is written in Java, and is a fork of LimeWire, another popular Gnutella client. The project was started in September 2005 by members of the LimeWire open-source community, after LimeWire's distributor considered placing "blocking" code, which it was developing in response to RIAA pressure and the threat of legal action, in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in MGM Studios, Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd. When eventually activated, the code could block its users from sharing licensed files. FrostWire was first released in October 2005.

As with Limewire, FrostWire is written in Java, and so is capable of supporting multiple platforms. LimeWire is available in both free and paid versions, while FrostWire is released only as a free version. The FrostWire program includes all of the free LimeWire version's functionality, plus a few features of LimeWire Pro's fee based upgrade. FrostWire also provides a chatroom which is absent in LimeWire. FrostWire's interface is nearly identical to that of LimeWire's since it's based on the same code base, however, the color scheme is slightly different as is shown in the picture above. As in LimeWire, the FrostWire skin may also be changed to a variety of different colors.

StrongDC++ is a client for sharing files in Direct Connect network, based on the popular Direct Connect clone "DC++". It is modification of program DC++ and it brings many news and features from other modification. Since DC++ is developed under GNU/GPL, you can download source and modify it. DC++ is very easy to use. File>Public Hubs (or CTRL+P) brings up the Public Hubs and Connection Window then all you do is simply wait for the hub list to appear and double click a hub to connect to it. This client support separate downloading. Direct Connect allows you to share files over the internet without restrictions or limits. Because DC++ is a self contained C++ program it doesn't need installing as such - simply download and unzip the zip file, copy the contents into a directory and double click the .exe application. Setup is simple too - once the application is running simply go to File>Settings... or click the icon on the Toolbar and you should see the settings pop-up.

Often the description next to a hub name in the hub list will contain a summary of the rules of the hub - some hubs are very much neo-modus only and will have the words NO DC++ in the description. Do not bother trying to connect to these hubs they will kick you out.
