Darktable 1.1 bringt für professionelle Fotografen und engagierte Amateure zahlreiche neue Funktionalitäten mit. Sie können ihre Datenbank nach ähnlichen Bildern durchsuchen, Fotos mit Geodaten versehen und gleich auf ihren Facebook-Account laden. Mit der Canon EOS M wird eine neue Kamera von der Software unterstützt.

Die Entwickler überarbeiteten die Oberfläche. In dem Zusammenhang nahmen sie sich des bei vielen Anwendern unbeliebten »More Plugins«-Widgets an, implementierten eine Funktion, um Bilder zu gruppieren, und eine Darktable-Schnittstelle für die Kommandozeile. Tonwert- und Basiskurven-Dialoge erhielten eine neue Schnittstelle, ebenso das Modul für die Farbkorrektur.

Darktable 1.1 lädt Farbprofile für Monitore automatisch und kann in JPG-Dateien eigebettete Farbprofile auslesen. Viele Module greifen via Opencl direkt auf die Grafikprozessoren zu. Die Bildbearbeitung in Darktable enthält mehrere Filtertechniken, mit denen sich Rauschen und Lichthöfe in Bildern reduzieren lassen. Die Software erlaubt bedingte Abblendungen und stellt Bilder in der Export- und Dunkelkammeransicht schärfer dar.

Darktable steht unter der GPLv3 und ist für Linux, Mac OS X und Windows erhältlich. Neben den Quelldateien auf sourceforge.net oder Github bieten die Entwickler ihre Raw-Bildbearbeitungs- und Verwaltungssoftware für viele Distributionen auch in Form von Binärdateien an.
