Fotokorrektur läuft immer wieder auf die gleichen Arbeitsschritte hinaus. Einen pickt sich der JPG-Illuminator heraus, der sich auf das Aufhellen von Schatten und Abdunkeln der Lichter spezialisiert. Er bearbeitet zusätzlich den Kontrast und setzt Bilder in Schwarzweiß um. Wie der Name JPG-Illuminator schon sagt, richtet sich das Programm an Nutzer, die im JPG-Format fotografieren. Da es ohne Installation auskommt, startet es beispielsweise auch vom USB-Stick.

Image Resizer: Powertoy für Vista & Windows 7 ermöglicht Grössenveränderungen von einer oder mehreren Bilddateien aus dem Kontextmenü des Explorers heraus.





Bild/Bilder markieren und die rechte Maustaste klicken. Über die Option »Resize Pictures« im Windows-Kontextmenü öffnet sich ein neues Fenster, in dem Sie Kopien der gewählten Bilder in frei definierbaren Größen speichern können.

Der Ansatz von Picture Resizer ist schlicht, aber praktisch: Das kleine Programm muss nicht installiert werden. Vielmehr sollte man die Datei auf den Windows-Desktop legen. Will man nun ein Bild verkleinern, zieht man die entsprechende Grafikdatei einfach auf das Programmsymbol von Picture Resizer. Daraufhin erstellt die Software eine Kopie der Originalbilddatei. Alternativ lässt sich der Konvertierungsauftrag über das Kontextmenü im Windows Explorer starten.

Der Name der Picture-Resizer-EXE-Programmdatei gibt in beiden Fällen die Zielgröße vor. Standardmäßig verkleinert das Programm die Fotos auf eine Breite von 400 Pixel – darum heißt die Programmdatei PhotoResize400.EXE. Soll das Zielbild beispielsweise eine Breite von 800 Pixeln bekommen, muss man die Datei entsprechend umbenennen. In diesem Fall also PhotoResize800.EXE.
Um Breite und Höhe gleichzeitig anpassen zu können, muss die der Programmname auf PhotoReziseBxH.EXE geändert werden. In diesem Fall steht B für Breite und H für Höhe.

BatchBlitz is a batch image processor with an included photo edit program. ExifTool kann mehr als nur Meta-Daten lesen und schreiben: Die von der Kamera gelieferten EXIF-Daten sind nicht immer korrekt, beispielsweise wenn das Kameradatum nicht stimmt oder der Kommentar noch auf den Vorbesitzer der Kamera hinweist. Solche Fehler korrigiert das Exif-Tool.

Die Sammlung von Perl-Skripten liest EXIF-, IPTC- und XMP-Daten und ändert diese auf Wunsch. Einen separaten Perl-Interpreter braucht man nicht. Für den vollen Funktionsumfang muss man sich mit der Kommandozeile vertraut machen, zum Korrigieren der Metadaten einzelner Bilder genügt das auf ExifTool aufsetzende ExifTool GUI.
