Photivo ist ein mächtiges Bildbearbeitungstool für fortgeschrittene Anwender. Das als Open Source zur kostenlosen Nutzung freigegebene Programm kümmert sich vor allem um RAW-Dateien und holt mit seinen Schiebereglern das Optimum aus den eigenen Aufnahmen heraus.

Photivo bietet zahlreiche Funktionen zur Optimierung von RAW-Bildern. Unter anderem sind Werkzeuge für Kontraste, Farben und Schärfe, für Zuschnitt, Perspektive und Drehung sowie diverse spezielle Effekte und Filter enthalten. Neben RAW-Bildern unterstützt das kostenlose Foto-Tool auch JPG-, TIFF- und PNG-Dateien. Ein zusätzliches Plug-in sorgt für eine direkte Anbindung zu GIMP.

Mit Photivo lassen sich Objektivverzerrungen, Vignetierungen und Verzeichnungen recht komfortabel korrigieren. Bei den Effekten stehen unter anderem Verlaufsüberlagerungen zur Verfügung. Die typischen Effekte wie Fisheye-Optik, Schwarz-Weiß-Transformation oder Retro-Film-Körnung lassen sich bequem anwenden.

Gerade bei den Tonwertfunktionen zeigt Photivo seine besonderen Qualitäten, die aus den RAW-Bildern noch eine zusätzliche Dynamik herauskitzeln und HDR-Tonungen erreichen können. Gegen Bildrauschen hat die Freeware mehrere Gegenmittel in petto, ebenso wie für das Schärfen von Bildern.

Photivo überzeugt mit vielfältigen Funktionen zur Optimierung von RAW-Bildern. die auch professionellen Ansprüchen genügen. Allerdings verlangt das Programm etwas Einarbeitung oder Vorwissen, damit die umfangreichen Filter und Effekte richtig zur Geltung kommen können.

ExifTool kann mehr als nur Meta-Daten lesen und schreiben: Die von der Kamera gelieferten EXIF-Daten sind nicht immer korrekt, beispielsweise wenn das Kameradatum nicht stimmt oder der Kommentar noch auf den Vorbesitzer der Kamera hinweist. Solche Fehler korrigiert das Exif-Tool.

Die Sammlung von Perl-Skripten liest EXIF-, IPTC- und XMP-Daten und ändert diese auf Wunsch. Einen separaten Perl-Interpreter braucht man nicht. Für den vollen Funktionsumfang muss man sich mit der Kommandozeile vertraut machen, zum Korrigieren der Metadaten einzelner Bilder genügt das auf ExifTool aufsetzende ExifTool GUI.
