It’s time for a very exciting update to the Opera developer stream!

Today, we’re bringing you a brand new refresh of our user interface in the developer stream. This work is part of a bigger project, codenamed Reborn, which we will tell you more about soon. However, starting from today, you can preview its fresh look and the new set of features.

Balabolka is a feature-rich program to read text aloud from a variety of file types including DOC, RTF, PDF, ODT, FB2 and HTML. The program uses Microsoft's own Speech API 4 and 5, but lets you fine tune various voice parameters, including rate and pitch, and a substitution list can also be applied to improve the quality of the voice's articulation. The program supports customized font and background color, skins, control reading from the system tray or by the global hotkeys.

Balabolka can also save the synchronized text to external LRC files or in MP3 tags inside the audio files. When the audio file is played with players on a computer or on modern digital audio players, the text will be displayed synchronously (in the same way as lyrics for songs).

Also includes batch conversion tools from of a wide variety of document formats to audio or plain text and a file compare tool, file splitter, and screen magnification window.

Inkscape ist ein kostenlos erhältlicher Vektor-Grafik-Editor mit enormem Funktionsumfang. Ursprünglich war das Programm eine rein für Unix entwickelte Software, die seit der Version 0.4 jedoch auch für Windows verfügbar ist.

Die Software ist erstaunlich einfach zu bedienen und somit auch für Anwender geeignet, denen professionelle Applikationen wie llustrator oder Freehand bislang Probleme bereiteten. Dazu tragen unter anderem die Anwenderfreundlichkeit und die nahezu selbsterklärenden Werkzeuge des Tools bei.

FocusWriter hilft Vielschreibern beim Verfassen von Texten. Die Textverarbeitung blendet alle Menüs und Leisten aus. So kann man sich beim Schreiben voll und ganz auf das Wesentliche konzentrieren.

Der Vollbild-Texteditor FocusWriter zeigt als Oberfläche absichtlich lediglich den blanken Text. Daher gelingt es leichter, störungs- und ablenkungsfrei zu schreiben. Auf Wunsch kann man auf zusätzliche Steuerelemente zugreifen und diese per Maus über die Bildschirmränder abrufen.

Außerdem kann bei FocusWriter eine Statuszeile mit der aktuellen Uhrzeit, einem Timer und Statistiken eingeblendet werden. Das geplante Arbeitspensum legt der Schreiber in den Einstellungen in Minuten oder Wörtern fest. Textart und -farbe werden hier ebenfalls ganz nach Wunsch bestimmt.

Mit FocusWriter können mehrere Dokumente parallel bearbeitet werden. Ein Speichern erfolgt im RTF-, ODT- oder TXT-Format. Standardmäßig zeigt die Freeware einen einfarbigen, nüchternen Hintergrund. Wer die Arbeitsumgebung etwas freundlicher und abwechslungsreicher gestalten möchte, kann die Farbe ändern und auch ein eigenes Bild als Hintergrund einblenden.

FocusWriter enthält alle Grundfunktionen einer Textverarbeitung inklusive Textformatierungen, einer Rechtschreibprüfung und dem Suchen und Ersetzen von Wörtern und Textausschnitten. Die Freeware spricht vor allem den Vielschreiber an, der sich allein auf den Text konzentrieren möchte.
