Der soziale Mediaplayer Tomahawk ist in der Version 0.3 erschienen. Tomahawk spielt nicht nur die Audiodateien vom heimischen Rechner ab, sondern kann auch die Musiksammlungen von Freunden via Twitter, Jabber und Google Chat durchsuchen und Wiedergabelisten verschiedener Quellen wiedergeben.

Tomahawk ist noch ein recht junges Projekt von fünf Entwicklern, das aus Frust heraus geboren wurde. Anwender können die auf mehreren Computern gespeicherten Musiksammlungen durchsuchen, tauschen und hören. Das Programm kann jegliche Wiedergabelisten abspielen, die dem XSPF-Playlist-Standard entsprechen und bietet die Möglichkeit, über sogenannte Resolver Musik verschiedener öffentlicher Quellen abzuspielen. Zu diesen zählen beispielsweise YouTube, Spotify, Grooveshark, Soundcloud oder official.fm. Wollen Anwender ein Stück hören, sendet Tomahawk eine Anfrage über alle gelisteten Resolver und spielt es ab, wenn es gefunden wird.

In Tomahawk 0.3 installieren Anwender Resolver mit nur einem Klick. Sie können aus dem Programm heraus die Hitlisten verschiedener Anbieter wie iTunes, Billboard, Hype Machine, We Are Hunted und Spotify aufrufen und Kontextinformationen zum aktuell laufenden Stück in einer Fußnote anzeigen lassen. Eine globale Suche erleichtert das Aufspüren eines Stücks und Links von Spotify, Rdio und iTunes lassen sich via Drag&Drop zu Wiedergabelisten hinzufügen. Die Funktion »Faule Listen« kann komplette Alben, Künstlerkataloge oder bekanntesten Stücke eines Künstlers in einer Wiedergabeliste zusammentragen, wenn nur ein Stück mit Metainformationen vorliegt. XSPF-Listen aktualisieren sich in der neuen Tomahawk-Version automatisch.

Neben den neuen Funktionalitäten fügten die Entwickler zusätzliche Resolver hinzu, unter anderem für Grooveshark, ex.fm oder Dilandau. Weiterhin behoben sie mehrere Fehler und ließen viele kleine Verbesserung in ihren Mediaplayer einfließen, die allesamt in einem Blogeintrag nachgelesen werden können.

Tomahawk ist für Linux, Mac OS X und MS Windows verfügbar. Die Software steht unter der GPLv3 und kann im Downloadbereich des Projekts abgerufen werden.

Das Schneidewerkzeug Mp3splt verarbeitet neben MP3s auch Ogg-Vorbis-Dateien. Es zerteilt automatisch mit AlbumWrap oder Mp3Wrap zu Alben zusammengeschnürte Tracks oder nutzt die Titelaufteilung aus einer Online-CD-Datenbank als Schnittliste. Das Programm lässt sich durch Kommandozeilenparameter steuern; wer eine grafische Oberfläche bevorzugt, greift zu Mp3Splt-gtk. Im „Auto-Adjust Mode“ passt Mp3splt Schnittpunkte automatisch anhand von Pausen an. Um die Markierungen per Drag & Drop zu platzieren, muss man zuvor den Audio-Player SnackAmp installieren, mit dem Mp3splt-gtk per TCP kommuniziert. In SnackAmp aktivieren Sie dazu unter Tools/Preferences/Miscellaneous das „Socket Interface“ auf dem voreingestellten Port. Der „Connect“-Knopf in der Menüleiste von Mp3splt-gtk baut dann die Verbindung auf. Liegen SnackAmp und Mp3splt-gtk im selben Verzeichnis, startet die Connect-Schaltfläche bei Bedarf automatisch den Player.

The GodFather ist ein Gratis-Programm für das Organisieren und Umbenennen Ihrer MP3-Dateien. Dabei greift das Programm online auf Datenbanken zurück und gleicht dann Ihre Sammlung mit diesen Daten ab. So werden automatisch unvollständige Dateinamen nach Ihren Vorgaben (beispielsweise: Interpret - Album - Titel) ergänzt.

Das Programm nutzt dabei die ID3-Tags (Version 1 und 2) der MP3-Dateien, die unter anderem Infos über den Interpreten, das Album und den Titel beinhalten. Das Umbenennen erfolgt stapelweise. In der Vorschau kann man die Titel auch einzeln bearbeiten oder bestimmte Clips vom Vorgang ausnehmen.

Als Bonus spielt GodFather die Dateien auch ab, fahndet nach Duplikaten und wandelt MP3-Dateien in Ogg-Vorbis um. Auch ein Stapelkonvertieren von MP3-Dateien in eine andere Bitrate ist möglich.

Mp3Extractor is a tool for copying several portions from an MP3 audio file into new (numbered and tagged) MP3 files.

Listen to your material (e.g. recorded radio shows, live performances, DJ sets) through Nullsoft Winamp and with the help of Mp3Extractor, find the portions, parts or tracks of interest, drop markers at the desired start and stop times of these takes and optionally add track information.

Mp3Extractor includes many features for navigating swiftly through even lengthy input files, checking and fine tuning marker positions.
When you're done, Mp3Extractor will copy the corresponding MP3 frames to new MP3 files properly name and tag these output files and optionally write track information to a database list.

Whereas a cutter will in most cases merely trim a file, and a splitter will just cut it into pieces, the Mp3Extractor will give you exactly the parts of the file that you want - and only these.

• Why Mp3Extractor?

- True, there already are hundreds of audio editing and MP3 tools around. Most are wave editors. They are good for sophisticated editing on little data - but not very handy for doing as little as cutting to loads of data.
- Some were designed for digitizing analog albums and preparing CD tracks. They help you a lot when there's silence between tracks. But what if there isn't? What if the input files are hours long. You don't even know what's in them. Or what you like and what you don't. You'll probably throw most of it away. Sometimes you want 2 tracks out of 3 hours, sometimes 20 out of 2. You neither want to cut out these 20 tracks one by one nor something that just smashes a file to pieces and leaves it to you to sort limb from limb and take the garbage out.
- Sometimes you might want to browse through and make decisions fast, sometimes you want to listen in the background and take a note when you hear something interesting. Return days later and find that something remembers where you left off.
- All of this with one tool. Bye bye, scribbled sheets of paper. All features readily available by fast keyboard short cuts and with as little clicking around as possible.
- True, it also worked without. But over time I got fed up with wasting so much time using tools that were not exactly designed for what I was trying to do and were lacking simple features, that would make things so much easier and that I knew were not that complex to implement, but just weren't available...

• Who is supposed to use Mp3Extractor?

- Do you regularly record your favorite DJ's radio or TV sets? Special music shows? Live concerts? Have them as MP3's? You want to swiftly pick the raisins out, keep them, tag them, put them in a list and throw the rest away? Choking on hour long input material, got no time to even listen to all of it in real time? Die Freeware "Zortam Mp3 Media Studio" lässt keinen Wunsch offen, zumindest wenn es um Ihre MP3-Sammlung geht. ID3-Tags bearbeiten, CD-Cover im Internet finden, MP3s in WAV umwandeln und Audio-CDs erstellen.

Das Tool sucht nach Informationen und Covern auf Amazon. Die Bilder sind unter anderem auch zu iTunes kompatibel und können so auch für den Apple iPod verwendet werden.

Hinweis: Auf der Hersteller-Webseite können Sie das Tool auf eine Pro-Version updaten, denn einige Funktionen vom "Zortam Mp3 Media Studio" werden nach zwei Tagen eingeschränkt.
