AbiWord 2.8 is a multi-platform, collaborative word processor that combines state-of-the-art usability, powerful features, and excellent interoperability. Furthermore, it features a powerful framework for supporting custom extensions. AbiWord v2.8.6 is the latest stable release, which fixes a bad regression that was introduced in AbiWord v2.8.5. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"IBM Lotus Symphony" ähnelt im Funktionsumfang dem Freeware-Klassiker Open Office, ist grafisch jedoch ansprechender. Beim Start von Lotus Symphony werden immer alle drei Programmteile geladen. So können Sie in einem Fenster gleichzeitig an Texten, Tabellen und Präsentationen arbeiten. Über die Tab-Leiste wechseln Sie schnell und bequem zwischen mehreren geöffneten Dokumenten.

Dateien werden standardmäßig im Open Document-Format gespeichert. "Lotus Symphony" kommt aber mit allen gängigen Formaten zurecht. Positiv fällt die eingebaute PDF-Export-Funktion auf, mit der Sie ohne Umweg PDFs erstellen.

Ich bin ja stark begeistert. Ich gestehe, ich bin erst heute über den Script Editor in den Google Docs gestolpert (durch einen Beitrag im Gmail Blog). Tabellenkalkulation war früher nie so meins aber die Script Gallery hält für den geneigten Freund von Statistiken und Dingen, die man in Tabellen eintragen kann, allerlei bereit. Ich weiss gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll.

Legt euch mal eine leere Tabelle innerhalb der Google Docs an und werft unter Tools die Script Gallery an. Was findet man dort? Vorlagen! Zig Vorlagen. So kann man zum Beispiel Kontakte einlesen, editieren und diese wieder exportieren. Oder vorgefertigte Scripte, die euch einmal im Monat detaillierte Statistiken über eure Google Mail-Aktivitäten schicken. Klickt euch mal durch, vielleicht findet ihr ja etwas, was euch eine lästige Arbeit durch Automation abnimmt.

Nach gut zwei Jahren Arbeit haben die Entwickler Version 3.0.0 der schlanken Textverarbeitung Abiword veröffentlicht. Abiword 3.0 steht derzeit als Quelltextarchiv zum Download bereit, das sich auf aktuellen Linux-Systemen ohne größere Probleme übersetzen lässt.

Wichtigste technische Änderung gegenüber der aktuellen stabilen Version 2.8 ist die Portierung auf Gtk+ 3. Absätze können jetzt eine Umrandung und eine eigene Hintergrundfarbe erhalten. Dank RDF-Unterstützung lassen sich semantische Informationen zu Texten hinzufügen. Abiword kann jetzt E-Books im Epub-Format einlesen, bearbeiten und speichern. Das Kollaborations-Plugin unterstützt nun auch Instant Messaging. Hinzu kommen eine verbesserte Lokalisierung und zahlreiche Bugfixes.
