Der HTML5-Flash-Player Shumway hält Einzug in den Hauptentwicklungszweig von Mozillas Browser Firefox. Läuft alles glatt, könnte Firefox 27 in der Lage sein, erste Flash-Inhalte ohne Flash-Player abzuspielen.

Mozilla unterstützt seit geraumer Zeit das Open-Source-Projekt Shumway, das einen HTML5-Flash-Player entwickelt. Der Ansatz soll es ermöglichen, Flash-Inhalte auch ohne Flash-Player in Firefox wiederzugeben. Shumway wandelt die Flash-Inhalte in normale Webinhalte um, die Firefox dann wie gewohnt anzeigen kann. Ähnlich verfährt Mozilla bereits mit dem in Firefox integrierten PDF-Viewer, der auf pdf.js basiert und PDF-Inhalte in Webinhalte umwandelt.

Waterfox is a 64-Bit version of Firefox. The Firefox source code is taken and compiled to run specifically for 64-Bit Windows computers.
