Waterfox is a 64-Bit version of Firefox. The Firefox source code is taken and compiled to run specifically for 64-Bit Windows computers. To make Waterfox stand out a bit more, it's compiled with optimizations so that it will run more efficiently and faster than just compiling Firefox as a 64-Bit program.

"Brave" soll Nutzer für eingeblendete Werbung entlohnen. Auch Publisher sollen an dem Modell verdienen, lautet der Plan von Brendan Eich.

"Das Web ist heute in großer Gefahr", schreibt der ehemalige Chef der Mozilla Foundation und Schöpfer von JavaScript Brendan Eich zur Vorstellung seines neuen Web-Browser-Projekts "Brave". So wie einst Microsoft die freien Standards des World Wide Webs bedroht habe, sei nun der Web-Browser durch die Praktiken der Werbeindustrie gefährdet. So würden die Nutzerdaten durch werbeunterstützte Seiten ausgelesen, ohne den erklärten Willen des Nutzers wirklich zu berücksichtigen.

Eigener Werbedienst, ohne Tracking

Der nun in einer Vorversion vorgestellte Browser soll das ändern. "Brave" soll nicht nur die meiste Werbung von Webseiten entfernen, sondern auf einigen Werbeplätzen eigene Werbung einblenden, die die Nutzerdaten nicht trackbar macht. Dazu greift der Browser unter anderem auf Filterlisten zu, die von PlugIns wie Adblock Plus genutzt werden.

Im Unterschied zu dem Adblocker will Eich aber keine Werbetreibende gegen Zahlung freischalten, sondern einen eigenen Werbedienst anbieten, der die Nutzerdaten schützt und vor Tracking absichert. Ein großer Teil der Einkünfte aus dieser Werbung soll zwischen den Nutzern und den Publishern aufgeteilt werden. Der Nutzer soll selbst entscheiden, ob er Werbeeinblendungen zulassen will. Das verdiente Geld soll per Bitcoins verteilt werden.
