Hi Jack, hi dada,

I don't know what the firefox issues are,  but presume it might be related to that.
The warnings are gone now.  :)

... i'm starting to think it might be tevii related in your case,  perhaps the higher throughput does not agree with the tevii if so might be system/device or perhaps driver related.
I also thought about problems with the Tevii and/or its USB driver but I tested another card (PCIe DVBSky S950C) and had similar problems.
Didn't i already wrote about my two graphics cards inside the same system, showing a total different behaviour regarding the stability of UHD when using EVR with LAV decoders?  :hmm

Hi Joutungwu
yes I saw your comment on the EVR. That's why I started fiddling with different EVRs and ended with different ones for each soft.
As overall conclusion after some more experimentation today It seems simply chancy whether one gets a decent working connection to the GPU or not. When I try the same station under the same settings many times I sometimes get audio and video but mostly only short audio before the crash. This is for SDVB and DVBV and also the 2 cards make no difference with respect to this. I do not have a graphics card which I could use.

@JJ
I forgot to answer your questions! RC2 also did not work out of the box, but I did not try many different settings. Previous versions I did not test. I have no other hevc filter which I could try and yes I changed LAV audio settings with no success. VMR9 did sometimes work but badly. Different audio made no difference. But, to be cautious, as I stated above, mostly, even with previously working settings, correct display failed. so all my results are not on a solid base..

I have the WinTV-Solo T2 Stick working very good with RC3!

Thanks

Well, I get more and more puzzled. I knew that with VMR9 I can start UHD channels reproducibly, of course, without HW accell, and choppy video. Today, while UHD1 was running (badly with high cpu usage) I switched from VMR9 to EVR (which never worked if used right from the start). I did not trust my eyes at the result: it was perfect! clean smooth audio and video at about 50% CPU usage. I checked LAV: no HW accell. I thought, ok, i7 6700k cpu should be able to perform this way. And now the bad part: After closing and restarting SDVB I was not able to reproduce it. :enno

Hi dada,
i don't use timeshift. Maybe this explains, why i got UHD more often working than you while testing, even right from the start?
Unfortunately, this doesn't solve it. Most times it's not working. I guess this is related to the Intel GPU drivers causing the problem.  :-\

50 % CPU load fits to my observations, if UHD works with HD G. 530 by chance.

I fully understand how frustrating this problem is.  umpf

Hi

Yes looks like these problems are intel HD related which would be strange when not even using HW acceleration.  I myself have an older intel HD GPU totally incapable of running HEVC fluently but it runs HEVC ok,  albeit stuttering, but still.  You would expect newer intel GPU to have less issues especially if not even HW accel is involved.  Did you try changing the lav HW acceleration options (dxva native or copy back  seem to work best on my intel,  contrary to the intel hd accelleration which runs worse for me).  Of course it's frustrating if you have a totally capable system and have such problems with HEVC.

@Cookie: good to hear that,  haven't had much reports yet about German DVB-T2 working.  Are you using MPLP for that device,  and if so did that work for you with the default MPLP implementation?

Hi Jack,
yes, now I am pretty sure that this is all intel-related. I installed the latest drivers for 530 yesterday (dated march this year), nothing was changed, same problems. They only seem to be fixing things for stupid games...
And also yes: I tested any possible alteration offered by LAV for HW support...did not change anything. It all seems very unstable because, when once I had it running (I guess, by chance :Kopf ) I could even switch between UHD channels using different audio filters without problems.

I bought the skylake because I was thinking that it would be a great energy-saver avoiding a 120 W graphics card. It works fine for most video including 8bit hevc, but the 10 bit version seems to be treated only pitifully. I have no idea (and no money to try)whether kabylake does better.

Edit: I hope I did not waste too much of your time!

Hi dada,

No problem. Of course it's not nice to have invested much in a system to have such issues,  but i would hope intel would step up a bit there and not let his customers down.  From my perspective It's good to know about these intel hd driver issues in terms of support, so nothing wasted there .  You wouldn't be able to try win7 on the same system (dual boot or something)?  But i can imagine this might be a bit overkill considering current HEVC content,  and for all you know you would have the same problems. Btw i agree about the efficiency of such integrated gpu's,  one does accept not having a true gaming gpu,  but good enough for everything else so strange these things seem not driver stable or that intel would  not give this priority.  I would be pretty pissed if i had bought such a system and couldn't get my money's worth.

Best regards
jj

Kann sein, aber ohne eigene Erfahrung. Auf dem Rick Caylor Board hatte jemand auch UHD Probleme:

It's finally working flawlessly again. The issue seems to be two fold. First, I mistakenly must have installed both the 32bit and 64bit drivers for the LAV decoder. I uninstalled LAV decoder and only installed 32bit version of the decoder.

Ausprobieren.......

das kann ich mal problemlos versuchen, werde berichten.

edit: könnte was dran sein. Mein W10pro  ist 64bit, Smart 32bit, installiert habe ich beide LAV Versionen. Welche verwendet wird, weiß ich aber nicht...habe nicht darauf geachtet. Das wird vielleicht interessant, aber heute nicht mehr :)

hi, would be odd indeed if the 32 and 64 bit versions of LAV would clash, i wouldn't expect that tbh. The 64 bit LAV version won't even show up in the connection dialog only the 32 bit version, it's impossible to use the 64 bit version

did not have the time to test yet, one of my two cats decided to climb a 18 meter tree and not find the way back....kept me busy for a while.  :o

Some points i found out about using Skylake HD Graphics 530 with LAV Decoders 0.69 and EVR to decode 4k (UHD) HEVC Main10 (10 bit) video from UHD channels:

- As @jackjavo wrote, it's not possible to use x64 LAV decoders with x86 DVB software or video players.

- It is possible to try x64 LAV decoders by installing MPC-HC x64 because LAV x64 decoders are implemented internally.

- Using Hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) results in crashes most of the times or always, depending on the software but there is no dependency of using x64 or x86 software/decoders.

- Without DXVA2 for HEVC the x64 LAV video decoder performs much better than the x86 LAV video decoder on Intel i5-6500 CPU with slightly lower CPU load. The same UHD record can be played very smoothly with x64 decoders while it stutters with x86 decoders. Naturally the CPU load is relatively high without DXVA2. When playing the record with x64 decoder, even opening Windows start menu causes stuttering.
