EssentialPIM includes a calendar/scheduler, todo list, contact manager, basic e-mail client, and tree-like multi-level notes tool that supports rich text, formatting, and images.

While many advanced functions such as synchronization and encryption are exclusive in the Pro version, the program is capable of manually importing from variety of formats including Outlook, TreePad, Google calendar etc. Additionally, it can export to many formats including HTML, vCard, iCal, RTF, CSV, iPod, text, etc.

Stickies is a PC utility to try to cut down on the number of Post-It notes you leave stuck to your monitor. You can place Stickies anywhere; once on screen, it will remain where placed until closed, even through reboots. The appearance can be customized; fonts, colors, and buttons may be changed, and styles saved. Stickies can be resized. It can also store important text or images and snap to each other and to the sides of the screen to keep them neatly lined up.

Joplin is an open source note taking application that can handle a large number of notes organized into notebooks.

Notes are stored in markdown format and can be searched, modified, tagged, directly in Joplin or using any text editor. Evernote users can even import their notes.

Joplin has no learning curve. It's so well laid out that you can jump right in. Across the top, you can quickly create a new note, to-do or new notebook. You can toggle the sidebar on or off and even change the layout.
