DSpeech is a text-to-speech program with the option of saving the output to a variety of formats, great for creating audio books from text sources. It also supports dynamically changing the features of the voices eg. insert pauses, emphasize specific words, spell them out etc. using tags.

The program can import text from TXT, DOC, DOCX, RTF, HTML, XML, and PDF and output to MP3, OGG, AAC, WMA.

DSpeech works out-of-the-box on WinXP and above because the Microsoft speech engine SAPI5 is included by default. For WinNT/2K, you will need to install the speech engine separately. You will find links to plugins, speech engines and voice sets on the program website.

    Fixed a fault in the “File Dialog” window that allowed the same directory (currently being viewed) to be opened again (forcing a refresh)
    Fixed a fault that caused Sideo to crash when closing after sending a file via the default email client
    The area that is selected on the main window is now shown in a bolder text
    The main window section openers now have subsection links, allow easy access to common tasks
    Added support to “Revert All Settings” via the “Settings” area on the main window (be careful, as this deletes everything apart from the logs)
    The section tabs on the main window now show a different mouse cursor when hovered
    Added support for “Middle Left” and “Middle Right” watermark positions via the “Settings” area on the main window
