TightVNC is a client/server software package allowing remote network access to graphical desktops. You may allow yourself to access your machine from everywhere provided that your machine is connected to the Internet.    Installer for Windows: Parameter-based silent installation. You can pre-configure TightVNC Server via MSI parameters and perform mass installation via a batch file or Group Policy.

    Installer for Windows: Both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions of the installer are available.

    Server for Windows: Full support for 64-bit systems. Besides obvious benefits of using native architecture, this allows to attach so called "message hooks" to 64-bit applications. In a simple language, message hooks help at detecting screen activity, so that we can get updates almost immediately instead of polling the complete screen once per second or so.

    Server for Windows: Support for mirror video driver (DFMirage). This makes screen reading ultra-fast in all supported versions of Windows, from Windows 2000 to Windows 7. DFMirage driver is a separate product, but it's free for TightVNC users (and it's available commercially if needed).

    Server for Windows: Improved performance when sharing a desktop with Windows Aero enabled. With Aero, each screen reading operation is expensive, and we can improve performance by reading more pixels in less operations.

    Server for Windows: Improved logging. Most importantly, new version reports all incoming connections to Windows Event Log. Also, logging to text files has been improved - the service writes to the same log file from all its child processes. There's always just one log file, so it's easier to locate an error message or e-mail the log to technical support service.

    Server for Windows: New option to configure extra ports mapped to arbitrary screen areas. If a client connects to such an extra port, it will be shown the corresponding part of the screen only.

    Server for Windows: New command-line options to share full desktop, primary monitor, selected monitor, a window, or an arbitrary rectangular area.

    Server for Windows: Optimized video processing for specific window classes. You can tell TightVNC to treat certain windows as video by providing a list of window class names. Once a matching window is detected, its contents will be sent to clients continuously, with minimum delays.

Die Entwickler der auf Webstandards aufsetzenden Remote-Desktop-Software Guacamole haben mit der Version 0.6.0 neben zahlreichen Korrekturen nun auch die Unterstützung von RDP in die Anwendung eingebaut.

Guacamole stellt eine HTML5-Webanwendung dar, die einen direkten Zugriff auf eine Desktop-Umgebung ermöglicht. Dazu nutzt das System Remote-Desktop-Protokolle wie VNC, und in der neuen Version auch RDP. Ein zentraler Server dient dabei als ein sogenannter Tunnel und ein Proxy und ermöglicht somit einen Zugriff auf das System, auch wenn keine speziellen Ports in der Firewall geöffnet wurden. Der Zugriff auf den Desktop erfolgt dabei direkt von einem Browser aus. Spezielle Plugins sind dabei nicht notwendig.

Mit der Freigabe der Version 0.6.0 haben die Entwickler die Anwendung weiter beschleunigt. Jetzt soll Guacamole nach Angaben der Entwickler fast die gleiche Geschwindigkeit wie eine native Anwendung erreichen. Ferner wurde das System an die Bedürfnisse von Nutzern von Touch-Geräten angepasst. Zudem kann man sich in das System nun direkt auch mittels Parameter in der URL einloggen. Ferner können in der aktuellen Version auch mehrere Verbindungen von einem Anwender zum Server hergestellt werden.

Guacamole wird unter den Bedingungen der Affero GPLv3 vertrieben und kann ab sofort von der Seite des Projektes heruntergeladen werden. Das Team stellt dazu neben den Quellen auch Binärpakete für verschiedene Distributionen bereit.

- When automatic updates are turned on, Mac, Windows, and Linux clients now check for updates automatically after they are online for a week. To turn on automatic updates on a Mac or Windows client, go to System > Preferences >Settings > Basic settings and select Enable automatic update. By default, automatic updates are turned on.
* VPN alias
- You can assign an IPv4 address to the peers of your network. This is useful when the application used over Hamachi requires Class C network addresses, meaning that the network prefix (5.xxx.xxx) is the same, only the host identifier (the last part of the IP address) differs for every peer. This improvement affects Windows, Mac, and Linux clients.
* Multicast DNS and LLMNR support
- Hamachi now supports Multicast DNS (mDNS) and LLMNR to help name resolution. As of this release, you can use hostname.local or 123-456-789.local (client id) to address peers.
- By default, mDNS is enabled on Windows, but disabled on Mac OSX and LINUX. To change this setting, go to System > Preferences >Settings > Advanced settings > Peer Connections > Enable mDNS name resolution.
- By default, LLMNR is disabled on Windows (Vista or better), but enabled on Mac OSX and LINUX. To change this setting, go to System > Preferences >Settings > Advanced settings > Peer Connections > Enable LLMNR name resolution.
# Fixes
* Japanese localization on Windows clients
- The Manage Network menu on a Windows client did not have a shortcut due to localization issues.
* Audio notification for chat messages on Windows clients
- Audio notification was not played when a new chat message arrived. This error only occurred if you selected Blink the systray icon for visual notification. You can set your chat settings in System > Preferences > Settings > Advanced Settings > Chat Settings.
* Downloading client updates on Windows clients
- In some cases, the client found and downloaded the latest updates, but failed to install them due to an MSI installer error. As a result, the existing version of the client was restarted and, therefore, the client continuously searched for and downloaded available updates and tried to install them again. This resulted in an infinite loop of searching for and failing to install updates. As of this result, the Hamachi client only searches for updates if it did not download updates for two hours.
* Logging out on Windows and Mac
- In some cases, peers did not appear offline immediately after going offline in a Hamachi network. This issue only occurred on Mac and Windows clients.
* Joining and creating networks on Mac clients
- After joining or creating a network from the Hamachi client, the window was only closed if you moved the mouse. To join or create a network, on the Hamachi client go to Network > Join Network or Network > Create Network.
* Deploy link on Hamachi Mac clients
- In version 2.1.0.120 of the Hamachi Mac client, it was not possible to use a deploy link to install the client because links created on a Mac were ignored.
* Reconnection issues
- The following fixes have been made on Windows, Mac, and Linux clients related to reconnection:
> In some cases, the Hamachi client did not try to reconnect after network connection loss. As of this release, the client always tries to reconnect regardless of why the connection was lost.
> The Hamachi client tried to reconnect continuously after network connection loss. As of this release, there is a delay between two reconnection attempts.

- Introducing new full-screen mode, with optional auto-scaling, auto-scrolling and a pop-up toolbar.
* Installer for Windows:
- Added new MSI installer properties, to automate pre-setting passwords in silent mode.
* Server for Windows:
- Fixed a problem with querying local users on incoming connections. TightVNC has a feature to let local user approve or reject incoming connections. If there was no user action within a pre-configured time limit, new connection will be either accepted or rejected automatically. Unfortunately, the timeout setting did not work correctly in previous version and that could result in infinite timeouts. That has been fixed.
- Fixed the Apply button in the Configuration window - it stayed disabled on editing configuration settings.

- Fixed priority of preferred encodings. Previous version could work inefficiently with servers that do not support Tight encoding, because the viewer could choose uncompressed Raw encoding instead of well-compressed ZRLE.
- Eliminated 34-character limit on hostnames in the New Connection window.
- Using correct line ending characters in cross-platform clipboard transfers.
- Introduced a number of improvements and fixes in the user interface. That includes new commands in the toolbar and in the system menu, and architectural changes such as restoring the option to start new connections from the same Viewer instance.
- Adjusting viewer window size on remote desktop resizing.
- Other minor improvements and fixes.
* Source Code (Server and Viewer for Windows):
- Improved logging architecture. The changes will not be visible to end user, but developers will appreciate new logging system. There should be no more static methods and global log objects, so it will be easier to reuse separate components in third-party applications. Now all components work via a simple logging interface or can work without logging at all.
- Corrected build problems in various combinations of build configurations and platforms, in both Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010.
