This is a bugfix release for official stable release 2.2.0.

It fixes a minor vulnerability ( CVE-2023-30259 ) with a mature shapelib contained in our codebase.
The vulnerability addresses only the plugin Importshp, which is used to import shape files (SHP/SHX/DBF).
Shape files are used in surveying and so do not affect the most users.
As this is probably not a widely used plugin, the fix was just to remove the plugin.

If you are a surveyor and need the shape file support, it is safe to stay with 2.2.0 version, as long as you know the origin of the used shape files.
The vulnerability is an out-of-bounds read, what means, if a malformed shape file is imported, the application can crash.
With some efforts an attacker possibly can create a shape file, which can lead to unintended code execution and seize your computer.
But this is a worst case scenario, which I would rate as extremely low to occur.

    PDF import rewritten:

    Inkscape’s PDF importer has undergone an overhaul. You’ll find a new dialog with an overview of what Inkscape will do with each font it finds in your PDF, and more.

    Node deletion logic changed:

    Deleting nodes now doesn’t always behave the same, as Inkscape tries to detect whether you want the result to be a straight line connecting the nodes, or whether you want the result to be a round and smooth curve.

    Pinned colors in palette:

    We’re working hard to help you find the colors you need to succeed. Choose and pin the most important colors from a palette and keep them at your fingertips. Then unpin the ones you don’t need. Customize the size of the color swatches, too. This is practical when you’ve got a project with a specific color palette to respect. Additionally, the new shortcut F hides all canvas overlays and anything outside the page, so you can check your results and see what’s going to be printed.

    Paste on page:

    Now you can copy and paste an object from one page to another one and it’ll land in the same position. This is terrific when building templates and presentations or clones for animation using Inkscape.

    Filter editor overhaul:

    The Filters dialog automatically changes layout on resizing :

    This dialog has seen much love and is now easier to use. You’ll appreciate the pop-up menu when applying a filter to your selection and searching for certain effects, like blur.

    Krita 5.2.0 is a major new release, and the first of the Krita 5.2 series of releases. Especially internally, there have been huge changes and improvements. While there are a lot of important user-visible changes that will make artists’ workflow smoother, most work has been inside Krita, preparing Krita for the future.
    For animation, audio playback has been rewritten completely using the MLT framework.
    Also for animation, video export has been made much easier: you no longer need to separately download FFmpeg, since FFmpeg now built into Krita.
    As the first part of a two-part rewrite of text handling in Krita, the text shape engine has been rewritten completely. This provides support for text-on-path, vertical text, wrapped text, text-in-shape, OpenType, emoji and more. HOWEVER: this was step one. Step two is rewriting the actual tool you use to work with text. If you want to access the new features, you will need to use SVG source code editor from the text tool.
    The transform tool can now transform all selected layers.
    There is a whole new color selector that supports wide-gamut color spaces.
    There have been many improvements to the JPEG-XL file format handling. NOTE: because of problems updating to the latest version of the JPEG-XL library on Windows, not all improvements are already available in Beta1.
    The brush engine settings backend, which stores all the settings, has been rewritten to be more robust and maintainable, as well as preparing it for a user interface redesign.
