Novell-Entwickler Jonathan Probst hat Version 1.0 seines Malprogramms Pinta für Linux, Windows und Mac OS freigegeben. Die Paint.NET nachempfundene Anwendung soll sich als einfache Alternative zur Bildbearbeitung für alle anbieten, die den Funktionsumfang von Gimp nicht benötigen. Pinta unterstützt die Arbeit mit Ebenen, unbegrenztes Undo und bringt 35 Bildbearbeitungseffekte und -funktionen mit.

Für Version 1.0 haben die Entwickler hauptsächlich Fehler beseitigt, darunter einige, die zum Absturz des Programms führten. In den nächsten Monaten will Chefprogrammierer Jonathan Probst eine Roadmap für die weitere Entwicklung veröffentlichen und deutete bereits an, dort würden Plug-ins eine Rolle spielen. Außerdem hat er eine Feature-Request-Seite angelegt, auf der sich Pinta-Nutzer neue Funktionen für das Programm wünschen können.

Inkscape ist ein kostenlos erhältlicher Vektor-Grafik-Editor mit enormem Funktionsumfang. Ursprünglich war das Programm eine rein für Unix entwickelte Software, die seit der Version 0.4 jedoch auch für Windows verfügbar ist.

Die Software ist erstaunlich einfach zu bedienen und somit auch für Anwender geeignet, denen professionelle Applikationen wie llustrator oder Freehand bislang Probleme bereiteten. Dazu tragen unter anderem die Anwenderfreundlichkeit und die nahezu selbsterklärenden Werkzeuge des Tools bei.

Die Entwickler haben sich in der Version 0.48.2 auf das Beheben von Bugs konzentriert. Neue Features gibt es nicht. Sämtliche Detailverbesserungen kann man in den Release Notes nachlesen.
