Folder Sync is a backup program that can performs comparisons between two directories and then reports new, updated, renamed, moved and deleted files. The program can performs synchronization, as well as full or differential (only items that have changed) from the source to the destination path.

Mit Duplicati kann man schnell und einfach ein Backup seiner "Eigenen Dateien" bzw. natürlich auch für jeden anderen Ordner anlegen. Die Backups werden bei Bedarf verschlüsselt, wobei ein Passwort automatisch erstellt werden kann. Gespeichert werden die Backups auf externe Laufwerke, im Netzwerk, per FTP oder WEBDAV. Auch das Amazon S 3 storage wird unterstützt.

Dar is a command-line software aimed at backup and archiving of large live filesystems. DAR uses selective compression (not compressing already compressed files), strong encryption, may split an archive in different files of given size and provides on-fly hashing. DAR knows how to perform full, differential, incremental and decremental backups. It provides testing, diffing, merging, listing and of course data extracting from existing archives. Archive internal's catalog, allows very quick restoration of a even a single file from a very large, eventually sliced, compressed and encrypted archive.

Mit Aomei Backupper hat man die Möglichkeit, einzelnen Partitionen, Festplatten oder das gesamte System zu sichern und bei Bedarf wieder her zu stellen. Ebenso kann eine Notfall-CD erstellt werden, welche nützlich ist, wenn das System nicht mehr bootfähig ist. Es werden in den Standardeinstellungen bei einem Backup nur genutzte Sektoren gesichert, bei Bedarf kann man aber auch ein "Sektor für Sektor" Backup erstellen. Hier werden dann auch ungenutzte Bereich gespeichert, das das Backup natürlich größer werden lässt.

Das Backup kann gesplittet und bei Bedarf verschlüsselt und mit einem Passwort versehen werden.

Syncthing is a web-based and very accessible file-sharing service that provides you with the option to choose where your data is stored and a quick way to share it between multiple devices without the need to upload them to third-party sources.

While Syncthing does an excellent job of transferring files between multiple machines, it does have what some might consider being a downside, the fact that it requires the environment provided by a web browser in order to work.
