Keine Chance für Sasser & Co: Mit unserem Update-Paket für Windows XP und 2000 schützen Sie beliebig viele PCs via CD oder LAN mit den aktuellen Sicherheits-Updates vor Wurm-Epidemien. Die Vorbereitung ist jetzt kinderleicht: Ein fertiges Skript lädt die Patches vollautomatisch von Microsofts Servern herunter.

Für Anregungen, Probleme und Fragen haben wir ein Forum eingerichtet. Hier können Sie auch mit anderen Nutzern der Update-Skripte diskutieren. Wir wollen die Skripte in unregelmäßigen Abständen aktualisieren -- sobald genügend neue erschienen sind. Die zuletzt veröffentlichte Version finden Sie in Zunkunft auf dieser Webseite.

Unsere Skriptsammlung "Offline Update", die wir erstmals in c't 23/05 vorgestellt hatten, macht Windows-Updates ohne Internetverbindung handhabbar. Die Skripte laden sämtliche aktuellen Sicherheitspatches direkt von Microsofts Servern herunter und erstellen daraus frische ISO-Images für CDs oder DVDs. Mit diesen lassen sich beliebig viele PCs vollautomatisch auf den aktuellen Stand bringen.

Auf der Projektseite haben wir die Version 3.02 veröffentlicht. Der Autor Torsten Wittrock hat viele Probleme gelöst, von denen Nutzer der ersten Versionen im Forum berichtet hatten. Das Download-Skript nimmt jetzt auch Update-Pakete für .NET und die MSXML-Komponenten in die erstellten Medien auf.

Ein Vorteil dieser Skripte gegenüber vorgefertigten Update-Paketen ist die intelligente Installationsroutine: Sie befragt zunächst den bordeigenen Windows Update Agent, welche Sicherheitsupdates dem Zielsystem noch fehlen, und spielt anschließend nur diese ein.

Titel: c't Offline-Update 3.1 unterstützt weitere Windows-Sprachen

Die Version 3.1 der Skriptsammlung c't Offline Update lädt auf Wunsch auch Sicherheitsupdates für weitere Windows-Sprachversionen von Microsofts Servern. Derzeit stehen die Sprachen Englisch, Niederländisch, Spanisch, Französisch und Portugiesisch zur Wahl.

Das Skriptpaket, dessen Handhabung ein Artikel in c't 23/06 erklärt, erstellt jederzeit per Knopfdruck aktuelle Update-CDs und -DVDs als ISO-Images. Damit können Sie beliebig viele Windows-PCs auf den aktuellen Stand bringen, ohne die Updates jedesmal erneut aus dem Netz zu laden. Das Installationsskript spielt auf dem Zielsystem nur die Updates ein, die dort noch fehlen.

Die von c't herausgegebene Skriptsammlung Offline Update steht nun in der Version 3.2 zum Download bereit. Per Mausklick lassen sich damit sämtliche Sicherheitsupdates für Windows XP, 2000 und Server 2003 von Microsofts Servern herunterladen und auf Installationsmedien bannen. Mit diesen lässt sich ein frisch installierter PC ohne Internetverbindung vollautomatisch auf den aktuellen Stand bringen.

Die Version 3.2 lädt auch die Installationsdateien für den Internet Explorer 7 herunter. Der neue Browser lässt sich optional samt den relevanten Updates installieren. Das Download-Skript bietet jetzt noch mehr zusätzliche Sprachversionen an: Italienisch, Russisch, Polnisch, Griechisch, Tschechisch, Dänisch, Norwegisch, Schwedisch und Finnisch.

Die Version 4.0 der c't-Skriptsammlung Offline Update baut erstmals auch für Windows Vista und Office aktuelle "Service Packs", mit denen sich Sicherheitsupdates bequem von CD, DVD oder USB-Stick einspielen lassen.

Nach dem Start des Generator-Skripts genügt es, die Microsoft-Produkte und Sprachversionen auszuwählen, die das Skript von Microsofts Servern herunterladen soll. Sobald alle Patches auf der Platte liegen, verpackt sie das Skript in brennfertige ISO-Images für CDs oder DVDs. Auf dem Ziel-PC startet von diesen Medien ein Installations-Skript, das die fehlenden Updates in wenigen Minuten einspielt.

In der aktuellen c't-Ausgabe 22, die ab Montag am Kiosk erhältlich ist, finden Sie den ausführlichen Begleitartikel und Hilfestellungen für den Einsatz des Offline Update. Auf der Projektseite existiert ein reges Diskussionsforum.

Die c't-Lösung ist derzeit die einzige, die einen Windows-PC ohne schnelle Internetanbindung lückenlos mit aktuellen Sicherheitsupdates versorgt. Im Internet waren bis vor kurzem so genannte Update-Packs beliebt, die Microsoft-Updates in Installationspaketen bündelten. Seit Microsoft die Anbieter abgemahnt hat, sind die Projekte aus dem Netz verschwunden. Das von c't bereitgestellte Zip-Archiv enthält dagegen kein Byte Microsoft-Code.

Als nachträgliches Nikolausgeschenk hat der Entwickler Torsten Wittrock die Version 4.64 der c't-Skriptsammlung Offline Update fertiggestellt. Das neue Paket findet sich wie gewohnt auf der Projektseite. Damit lassen sich jetzt auch die x64-Varianten von Windows Vista, Server 2003 und XP ohne Internetverbindung via CD, DVD oder USB-Stick mit Sicherheitsupdates versorgen.

Die Skripte laden von Microsofts Servern sämtliche Sicherheitsupdates für Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista sowie Office 2000, XP, 2003 und 2007 herunter und erstellen daraus aktuelle "Service Packs".

Die Version 5.2 des c't Offline-Updates schnürt Update-Pakete, die auf Wunsch auch den neuen Internet Explorer auf beliebig vielen Ziel-PCs nachinstallieren.

Auf den Projektseiten der c't steht die Version 5.2 des Skriptpakets Offline-Update zum Download bereit. Die Skripte laden alle aktuellen Sicherheitsupdates für Microsofts Betriebssysteme und Office-Produkte direkt von den Redmonder Servern und verpacken sie in Update-Pakete. Von DVD oder USB-Stick gestartet, bringt man damit etwa mehrere frisch installierte PCs auf den aktuellen Sicherheitsstand, ohne die Updates jedes Mal erneut aus dem Netz laden zu müssen.

Die neue Version 5.2 des Offline Updates integriert auf Wunsch auch den neuen Internet Explorer 8 auf den Ziel-PCs. Der Entwickler Torsten Wittrock hat mit dem Update wieder kleinere Bugs beseitigt, die das Changelog der Projektseite dokumentiert. Die von c't und Torsten Wittrock veröffentlichte Skriptsammlung Offline Update hilft, Windows-PCs ohne langwierige Downloads mit aktuellen Sicherheitsupdates zu füttern. Die aktuelle Version 6.0 sammelt Updates für Windows 2000, XP, Vista, sowie Windows Server 2003 und 2008 ein und berücksichtigt (sofern erhältlich) deren 64-Bit-Varianten. Auch Microsofts Office-Pakete 2000, 2003, XP und 2007 lassen sich mit den Skripten auffrischen.

Das Zip-Archiv der Version 6.0 enthält die Download-Skripte auch als Linux-Version, die der Entwickler Stefan Jöhnke beigesteuert hat. Unter Linux ist das Risiko geringer, dass sich eventuell ein Schädling an den frisch heruntergeladenen Updates zu schaffen macht. Wer einen Linux-Fileserver betreibt, kann die Update-Sammlung per Cron-Job aktuell halten und frisch installierten Windows-Clients via Samba zur Installation anreichen – das Offline-Update ist aber kein Ersatz für die Update-Funktion in Windows.

Die Bedienoberfläche unter Windows hat Christian Riedel um die Möglichkeit erweitert, Updates für die gewünschte(n) Plattform(en) aus dem Download-Repository ohne Umweg über ein ISO-Image gleich auf einen USB-Stick zu kopieren. Außer der Beseitigung kleinerer Fehler sind als weitere Neuerungen die Integration des Service Packs 2 für Office 2007 sowie die optionale Installation der Windows PowerShell 1.0 zu nennen. Die Version 6.0 kann trotz des anderslautenden Verzeichnisnamens im Archiv in eine eventuell schon bestehende Struktur hinein entpackt werden.

WSUS Smart Approve is a console application designed for managing the Windows Server Update Service.

Its purpose to approve updates as they are detected as being needed, rather than download a vast amount of unnecessary downloads through following an "approve all" approach.

WSUS Smart Approve is a console application that is intended to be run on a regular basis, i.e. as a scheduled task. The more frequently it is run, the less time there will be between an update being reported as needed, and it being approved for download.

In order to carry out these tasks you need to have administrator access. The login which you choose to run WSUS Smart Approve under must have administrator access. You can add an account to your domain specifically for this tool, for now I will leave a search engine as your source for instructions on how to do this.
