Bootmanager - Boot-US
Hier wird ein Bootmanager angeboten der für private Zwecke mit kleinen Einschränkungen frei ist. Ich hab das Dingens im Einsatz (Start von Disk, Cd or whatever, Auswahl der zu bootenden Partition und los gehts, ich finds toll eine Surfpartition, eine Arbeitspartition und eine Spielpartition zu haben die über eine Datenpartition miteinander kommunizieren können. Geht eine flöten laufen die anderen immer noch (gerade passiert mit der Spielpartition --- zuviel Mist vom Satstream gestartet ;))

Eure Meinung würde mich interessieren, evt. auch was es an anderen Bootmanagern so im Einsatz gibt. (Ich verzichte jetzt mal aufs Crossposten in Umfragen :D)

Ich stell die Frage jetzt mal ganz naiv ::) in den Raum:
Der Boot-US Dingens kann relativ leicht Partitionen "verstecken", XP erkennt sie zwar noch aber nicht mehr was es ist. Haben die genannten BM´s eine ähnliche Funktion? (ich geb zu ich bin faul, könnt ja selber nachlesen ;D) .

Jein..
Der von XFDISK macht's nicht selbst, sondern das ginge nur über den Partitionierer, über den ja der BM auch verwaltet wird.
Das zu jedem (anderen) Boot eines Systems gern' genutzte Ändern versteckt / nicht versteckt schribt immerhin jedesmal im MBR herum. Daher tu' ich sowas meiner System-Platte nicht an, zu riskant.
Es gibt auch gelegentlich völlig andere Wege für Multi-OS.
So startet mein 2k beispielsweise von der C: von Win98. Dazu schreibt 2k bei der installation als zweites System einige Dateien auf C:, u.a. eine BOT.INI, die man auch edititieren kann.
Sieht bei mir etwa so aus: [boot loader]

Sicher wäre auch da mehr möglich...
Also startet hier 2k nicht vom MBR-Boot-Manager, aber Win98 (und dessen nachfolgende Menues), und ebenso die Linuxe. Möchte mich nämlich nicht mit LiLo & Co. von einem laufenden Linux (oder 'ner Boot-CD) abhängig machen, sondern selbst per Boot-Diskette auf DOS stets eingreifen können.
Ach ja, den MBR Manager von XFDISK kriegt man u.a. mit Start-Diskette und fdisk /mbr wieder sauber weg.
Wie auch immer, ein Bootmanager greift letztlich in kritische Bereiche der HD ein, also sollte man sich vor jedem Versuch erstmal gründlich schlau machen.
Und niemals ohne Datensicherung experimentieren!!!

Hallo Jürgen,
das hört sich interessant an. Ich denke da an Start von Win 98 vom USB-Stick und von da aus die Platte booten... Naja mal so ins unreine gedacht. Prinzipiell solte so ein billiger 128MB-Stick eigentlich ein Not-Dos und einige Rettungsproggies verfügbar machen. Sozusagen der Rettungsstengel...
(Wenn ich soviel Zeit hätte wie ich Ideen habe könnt ich locker .............. ;D)

Der Tag müsste fünfzig Stunden haben ::)
Wie auch immer, ein brauchbares Rettungs-Werkzeug ist u.a. eine Knoppix-CD.
Auch nicht schlecht ist sicher ein zweiter PC, z.B. um MS Backup auch im schlimmsten Falle ohne Neuinstallation von Win einsetzen zu können.
Es gibt wahrlich mehr Möglichkeiten, als man je austesten kann, man muss sich jedenfalls für eine praktikable Strategie entscheiden...
Immerhin habe ich Win9x noch nie neu aufsetzen müssen, seit ich das ursprüngliche '98 installiert habe. Trotz unzähliger Pannen und diverser Platten- und Board-Wechsel ;D
Ich wäre viel zu faul, alle wichtigen Ingredienzen neu zu beschaffen und sämtliche meiner Manipulationen zu rekonstruieren :P
Dementsprechend ist hier das parallele 2k immer noch recht kärglich ausgestattet.
Und auf meinem Zweitrechner sind die beiden Systeme geklont (allerdings mit anderen Nutzernamen usw.), trotz völlig anderer Hardware.

BootUS verwende ich seit einem Jahr und kann damit beim Start aus 3 Win 2000 Systemen auswählen. Bin damit sehr zufrieden.

Vorteile gegenüber grub "legacy":
- direkt von ISO booten möglich
- schöner
Nachteile:

Insgesamt feine sache. Sehr einfache Methode um iso's zu booten ohne rohlinge zu verschwenden ist überfällig.

Erfreulich das nun auch viel Arbeit in das Aussehen investiert wird, spricht mehr an. Nach meiner Erfahrung war das "kahle" Auftreten einer der Hauptgründe warum neue Nutzer die Finger von Linux gelassen haben. Ich für meinen Teil kann da ja sehr gut mit Leben, aber der Rest der Welt mag es halt bunt.

Der Bootloader Plop v5.0 des österreichischen Programmierers Elmar Handlhofer bietet Unterstützung für den Start von auf USB-Geräten installierten Betriebssystemen. Der grafische Bootmanager erkennt sämtliche Windows-Partitionstypen und kommt auch mit Linux- und LVM-Partitionen zurecht.
Plop wird entweder direkt im Master Boot Record (MBR) installiert, alternativ kann er in den Windows- oder Linux-Bootmanagern eingebunden werden. Dann kann Plop auch eigene Konfigurationsdateien verwenden, die auf der Festplatte liegen, etwa um vom Anwender erstellte Profile zu nutzen. Auch aus der Grub4DOS-Umgebung kann auf Plop zugegriffen werden.
Die Windows-NT-Reihe startet der Bootmanager direkt, Linux nur über den Umweg der Linux-Starter Grub oder Lilo. Diese dürfen dann aber nicht im MBR liegen, sondern lediglich im ersten Sektor einer Linux-Partition.

Über versteckte Partitionen, die Plop entweder als hidden oder cleared markiert, können etwa Windows-Betriebssysteme völlig unsichtbar voneinander betrieben werden. Solch spezielle Konfigurationen zum Betriebssytemstart liegen Plop dann als Profile vor. Zahlreiche Tipps zum Einsatz von Plop finden sich unter plop.at.
Der Bootmanager enthält EHCI-, OHCI- und UHCI-Treiber für den Zugriff auf USB-Geräte, allerdings fehlen Treiber für USB-Tastaturen. Über eine Option kann der Zugriff auf USB-Platten auch über den älteren USB-Modus 1.1 erzwungen werden. Die grafische Oberfläche bringt die Auflösungen 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1.024 x 786 und 1.280 x 1024 Pixel mit. Als Werkzeuge liegen ein Partitionseditor und ein Backupprogramm für Partitionstabellen bei.

Fast zwei Jahre nach der letzten Testversion von GRUB2 haben die Entwickler eine neue Variante des Bootloaders veröffentlicht und präsentieren zahlreiche neue Funktionen.
Der Bootloader GRUB gehört wohl zu den bekanntesten freien Loadern für Linux. Einst als Ersatz für LILO entwickelt kommt noch kaum eine Distribution ohne das System aus. Doch auch die Tage von GRUB sind gezählt, denn eine Neuentwicklung unter dem Namen GRUB2 soll weitere Verbesserungen mit sich bringen und fehlende Funktionen ergänzen.
Trotz des Einsatzes von GRUB2 unter anderem in Ubuntu 9.10 oder der Debatte, das System in Debian aufzunehmen, ist die Applikation keinesfalls fertig. Wie die gerade freigegebene Versionsnummer 1.97 verrät wird GRUB2 noch diverse Testversionen erfahren. Anbetracht des langen Entwicklungszeitraums zwischen der letzten Testversion 1.96 und der aktuellen Variante könnte GRUB2 noch etliche Jahre auf sich warten lassen.
Das aktuelle Release beinhaltet zahlreiche neue Funktionen und Verbesserungen. Unter anderem unterstützt die Applikation die Sicherung über Passwörter und bietet das GPT- und MBR-Partitionstool gptsync. Eine weitere Neuerung von GRUB 1.97 stellt die Unterstützung von MacOS X und Unicode dar. Darüber hinaus erhielt die neue Version einen Support für RAID 4,6 und 10.
Neu in GRUB 1.97 ist ebenfalls der Support von Cygwin, IEEE 1275 auf i386-Systemen und x86_64 EFI. Ferner wurde die LZO-Kompression gegen LZMA getauscht und dem System die Möglichkeit spendiert UUID als Gerätenamen zu nutzen. Der ATA-Treiber unterstützt nun auch Geräte über 2 TByte. Neu ist ebenfalls eine volle Unterstützung von FreeBSD, NetBSD und OpenBSD, sowie der UDF-, AFS- und EXT4-Dateisysteme und der Joliet-Erweiterung für ISO9660.

Rund drei Jahre nach der letzten Version hat Adrian Gibanel Lopez jetzt die neue stabile Version 2.00s2 seines Live-Images veröffentlicht. Eine neue Option mit der Bezeichnung »Everything« soll den Nutzer in die Lage versetzen, tatsächlich jedes installierte Betriebssystem zu finden. Mit »Everything+« sucht Super Grub 2 auch auf via RAID, LVM, Parallel ATA und USB angeschlossenen Medien. Ferner ist die neue Version 2.00s2 in der Lage, verschlüsselte Partitionen (LUKS und geli) einzuhängen und ggf. dort residierende Betriebssysteme zu finden. Außerdem unterstützt die neue Version 2.00s2 Legacy-Grub-Dateien, EFI auf x86_64-Systemen, Chainloading von EFI-Dateien und einige Extra-Boot-Parameter für Mac-OS-X-Kernel. Ferner gibt es eine Exit-Option zum Anhalten oder Neustarten.

Grub2Win supports 64 and 32 bit EFI and BIOS on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP. Safely dual boot Windows and Linux. Grub2Win boots native, open source GNU grub version 2.02 code. Make UEFI only options and BIOS/CMS only options clear.
If you boot in UEFI mode you are not able to chainload partitions (Operating systems installed in BIOS mode). Now we make that fact clear by prepending BIOS-BOOT-REQUIRED to these entries. Same thing applies in the reverse case. If you boot in BIOS mode you are not able to load EFI files (Operating systems installed in UEFI mode). Now we make that fact clear by prepending UEFI-BOOT-REQUIRED to these entries. If you insist on booting those entries Super Grub2 Disk refuses to boot them and explains why.
New option: Chainload directly /ntldr or /bootmgr.
(Note this new option will only work in BIOS/CSM mode). This option chainloads Windows’ ntldr or Windows’ bootmgr. It should be useful if you have somehow corrupted your Windows partition boot record. It might also be useful if you clone Windows into another hard disk and it refuses to boot.

You can now adjust the FAT32 partition size.
AIO Boot will be installed on both partitions.
Each partition will have a separate MENU and packages that you have integrated there. For example: Bitdefender, Gentoo and Fedora only support FAT32 partitions, so we should integrate the packages on this partition. NTFS can hold files larger than 4GB, in case you want to use a stay mode larger than 4GB for Android packages, you need to integrate it on an NTFS partition. From Grub2 menu, press F8 key to change to MENU in other partitions. I have added a function that lets you switch to menus in other partitions, just press F8 from the Grub2 menu.
To hide or show partitions, you can use BOOTICE. Or open AIOCreator.exe, go to Tools and select Partitions Manage select the partition that is currently hidden in the list and click the Set Accessible button.
For Windows Setup packages, its partition should not be hidden.
Creating two partitions can be done manually. Then extract the AIOBoot.7z file to both partitions.

PartIMG Mapper: This tool has the same features as Partition Image Mapper. It uses Grub4dos to create new partitions from files in the /AIO/Files/PartIMG directory. Please copy all the partition image files (.PartIMG) to /AIO/Files/PartIMG directory first and then defragment for all of these files. Only supported in Legacy mode.
PartIMG Partition: This menu scans all partitions that are MAP by the PartIMG Mapper.
Search Grub2 configfile: This menu will search all Grub2 configuration files (grub.cfg) in the /*/*/ directory.
Added Grub2 and rEFInd to the Clover menu. You can now boot directly into UEFI mode from Legacy mode. If you are updating from the old version, delete the /EFI/CLOVER/config.plist file and run AIOCreator.exe again.

PartIMG Mapper now supports MAP ISO files. You need to copy all your ISO and PartIMG files to /AIO/Files/PartIMG. Most Linux ISO files will be supported. These files need to be defragmented so that they can be used. Then boot into the PartIMG Mapper menu and select a file to MAP it to a new partition. By default, when you install Chameleon, the tool creates a file named “boot” at the root of the drive. This prevents you from copying or creating a folder of the same name on this drive. This version will use the file named “bootc” for Chameleon.

In this version, you only need to enter Network Path once to install Windows through network boot. Just share the AIO Boot drive and add the Network Path to the /AIO/networkpath.txt file. If your computer has an account and password, add the Network Path as NetworkPath|Username|Password. You can add multiple Network Paths by adding multiple lines. The tool will try one by one.

The setup routine now checks for encryption on the install target partition.
Installation to encrypted partitions will not be allowed.
This is because GNU Grub cannot read encrypted partitions at boot time, so it will not initialize properly.
If the partition is encrypted (usually with BitLocker), a warning message appears.
You can then install Grub2Win to another unencrypted partition.
Instructions have been added to the Grub2Win help file for creating an unencrypted partition.
This is for cases where there is no unencrypted partition available.

If the PartIMG_Root.img and/or ISO files are fragmented, you will need to defragment it first. Just defragment the file, no need to defragment the drive.
If you are updating from the old version, you should reinstall Grub2 by running AIOCreator.exe, selecting Grub2 from the Bootloaders.

ISO & IMG Mapper:
Support MAP along with another file with the file extension .data.
This file must have the same name as the main file. For example: ubuntu.iso and ubuntu.iso.data. Both files must be in the same directory.
The purpose of this is to support “persistent” for Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint… But you can choose any file you want to be a 3rd partition on the disk. This way you can use the “persistent” feature with the file on the NTFS partition, which is much larger and much faster.
New files: Debian.data.7z and Ubuntu.data.7z in the \AIO\Tools\DATA.IMG directory. You can extract and use it as a “persistent” partition for Ubuntu and Debian distributions. You can resize this file using toporesize. AIOCreator.exe -> Tools -> toporesize.
Support loading your own configuration file:
This file must have the same name as the main file. For example: ubuntu.iso and ubuntu.iso.cfg. Both files must be in the same directory.
The purpose of this is to add parameters to support “persistent” for the above mentioned Linux distributions.
The configuration file is usually located in the ISO file at /boot/grub/grub.cfg. Copy it out and make any changes you want.
For Ubuntu, add the “persistent” parameter behind “file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed” to support “persistent”.

FlashBoot contains an optional shim layer for VGA emulation, required for installation of Windows 7 to the modern UEFI-based computers without CSM/BIOS and without VGA hardware.
FlashBoot version 3.3a features multiple improvements in this subsystem.
Starting from this version of FlashBoot, Windows 7 can be installed to UEFI-based computers where video memory (UEFI GOP framebuffer) is mapped above 4 Gb boundary. Previous versions of VGA emulation shim would fail with "Unsupported hardware" error under these conditions.
Also, starting from this version, an entire area of LCD screen is available to Windows 7 via Standard VGA Driver. Previous versions of VGA emulation shim restricted available resolution to 1024x768 and displayed black sidebars until vendor-provided GPU driver was installed by the user.
Additionally, starting from this version, GOP framebuffer is mapped with page granularity (4 Kb). Previous versions used to map it with 64 Kb granularity. This enhancement should reduce number of cases when Windows 7 boot process hangs at the logo/flag phase, before the desktop is displayed.

AutoPartition: add a check box to make sure you understand this will lose all data on the selected USB.
Add Export files to language list. The files will be exported to the AIO_Boot_NewGen_Setup folder, edit these files to change the translations.
The tool uses the GET method to download the contents of a static file containing the latest version information. It will then compare with the currently installed version. So no data is sent and processed by the server, except for the minimum information needed for communication (IP, protocol, User-Agent…).
No direct link is provided for direct download because of limited server resources.

The first version today has a change in the path of the Microsoft binaries, but I forgot to change the path in the configuration files for Sergei Strelec and DLC Boot. The second version today has no other changes other than fixing this bug.
Network Boot: Account and Sharing
This information is required to boot into the entries in the WinPE & Setup entry. This only applies to entries that you have added using the ISO file.
The tool checks and sends the account information to the client. The client uses this account to mount the Network Path.
The tool will automatically share the folder when requested by the client.
Account information is encrypted at a very weak level before being sent to the client. You should treat this information as unencrypted. If your network is being monitored, there is a chance that someone can decrypt the information.
We should create a new account to use for Sharing. Command:
net user NewUsername NewPassword /add
Disable this account after using it with the following command to make sure no one uses it:
net user NewUsername /active:no
Enable this account when using it with the following command:
net user NewUsername /active:yes
This is a Local account, not a Microsoft account. The tool does not send it outside your local network.
You need to enter your account and password then click Check button then click Use this account for Sharing button.
This feature only works if at least 2 conditions are met:
The network driver on the client computer needs to be installed. Most network adapters are supported in WinPE 10 and later.
Make sure the necessary components for network initialization and networking functions in WinPE are not missing.

I have built a version of WinPE 11 to use for my own personal needs, if you want to use it, run the tool and then get the link at Download -> WinPE.
The software is stored in the AIOPEx64 folder, uncompressed.
Google Chrome is not pre-installed, get the latest version by clicking the icon in the tray, then select Get more Software.
Settings such as Time Zone, Region Format, Icons added to Desktop, Icons Pinned to Taskbak will be saved for subsequent sessions.
Services of Paragon software are not automatically started. After running the software, you need to click on start the service to get started.
Many other software such as Firefox and Notepad++ can be obtained from PortableApps.

FreeNFS is used to initialize the NFS server. If you add the ISOs of these distributions on another drive, you need to change the Root Folder to the AIO folder on that drive in the FreeNFS settings.
The entry for Debian and Fedora is also added to the iPXE menu, but it doesn’t work (I don’t understand why).
You can manually add entries and do your own testing by modifying the kernel parameters in the \AIO\PXE\iPXE\Linux.ipxe file.

Grub2Win supports 64 and 32 bit EFI and BIOS on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP. Safely dual boot Windows and Linux. Grub2Win boots native, open source GNU grub version 2.02 code. Everything is contained in a single 14 MB directory on your Windows C: drive. On EFI systems a few small modules (about one half MB total) will be installed to your EFI partition.
Using the simple Windows GUI and instructions you can install Grub2Win quickly and safely. Boot time messages and help can be displayed in your native language. Select from a nearly unlimited number of OS choices. Samples for Remix, Android, Ubuntu, Debian, Suse, Fedora, Mint, BSD and Windows are included. You can enter your own custom commands for each menu entry.
