Hi my german friends.  There's a new 050rc version available on the site,  sorry for the longer delay this time but had a bad personal summer i needed to recover from

This version does not add many features but has internal changes to improve video stability also on longer runs and overall app respnsiveness should be better due to changed signal handling plus many fixes also from older parts of the app,  did some refractoring of some parts which took lots of time to test

thanks silencer good to see you're also still going with dvbcube. Did you have a change to look at the current version, should be  more stable and recognise more devices (also on w10)

Yes , i think i can do this in the next few days .

First look : I had to start smartdvb ´as administrator´ in order to start my devices. Scanning channels was fast and good (Florian Device) .Then i played around with codec and renderer setings ... thats all ... running fine with no further problems atm ...

Hello Jack
good to read from you after a while. Just came back from a long stay in France, Will test your new version during the coming days. I had to start SDVB as admin since your later versions already, but that is of course no problem. Will report my experience.
Titel: Re: SmartDVB 0.5.0rc
Beitrag von: jackjavo am 18 Oktober, 2016, 17:35
hi thanks! :) are you both talking about needing to install as admin whilst having installed the application data in the local app data folder, on win10? If using the secondary install option to install in ' program files' (but can be any other directory for that  matter) admin is always necessary.
Titel: Re: SmartDVB 0.5.0rc

i used the secondary install option (data in normal programm folder -> ' program files )

Hi, I was busy for a couple of days.
I also installed using the second option and admin was required to run SDVB in W10. No complaints from my side for now. Runs smoothly.

Hi

There's a new install rc2 which might fix that admin issue.
Been reading about new dvb-t2 developments in germany,  does this include plp (multistream)  selection and is this already testable there with normal bda t2 sticks?

Hi Jack,

I did not find a suitable DVB-T2 HD stick yet, without having to spend a real fortune...

STBs can be found everywhere, for slightly above 40€ without decrypting, or around 70€ with decoder.
For sure I would not be willing (nor able) to pay more than that, for a stupid USB stick (or PCI-e) device!

And of course I would not go for a tuner, that is not specified for the German market.
For example, I do have a small Tokai LCD TV from around 2012, that came with a DVB-T2 tuner ready for the French market, but this one does not even find the one now active transponder over here.

My new XORO HRT 7620 STB is working fine, but it won't provide me with full technical data on the transmissions.
Nothing to be found but frequency and tuning raster, plus byte rate during recording.

So, sorry I can't run any tests with German DVB-T2 HD on the computer for now.

Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,

Good to hear from you again btw.  I gathered as much from what i read here (need to brush up on my german reading skills for sure) ,  no dvb-t2 here in my country so no other option than to try to test such things remotely. I kind of envy you there getting to play with these new techs.  For sure there might appear some cheaper dvb-t2  devices for the German market in the future. Been having lots of requests for this lately  hence my queries. There are some t2 satellite muxes though (t2-mi) i can get, seems some providers distribute entire MPLP streams  through multistream sat frequencies,  but not real useful for dvb-t2 testing in any case.

Hopefully just a matter of some time until such cheaper usb stick options become available. Lets hope they use standard defined interfaces for their bda drivers :(

Btw the current version looks quite good stability wise also for the various test HEVC streams that can be received on sat now.

Best regards
Jack

Hi Jack,

i just installed SmartDVB 0.5.0.51 RC3. My first impression: It runs much better than 0.4 on Windows 10 overall. Very awesome, especially for Ultra HD channels.

Installation was also great. All settings from 0.4 were adopted automatically without any problems.

Thank you very much! Great work!  :jo ;Beifall ;Beifall ;Beifall  :jo

I installed over RC2 with no problem at all. However, I still can't get uhd to work. Smart will tune to the station and then simply will freeze. After force-close and restart smart will again tune and freeze. As filter I use LAV 068.1 I have not found a solution yet. Same filter works with MPC-HC.
Any hints?

Hi dada,
Any hints?

Try the latest version of SmartDVB RC3 (0.5.0.51):
Zitat
- overall improved stability.
- bda.dev fixes/improvements should be compatible with more devices now.
- HEVC compatibility improved, some current HEVC codecs do not seem enough yet and might cause crashes or freezes, if you have problems try the LAV HEVC decoder.
- improved blindscanner interface
- better video stability.
- audio A/B channel selection button to the graphical status bar.
- scheduler conflict detection and resolving.
- signal analyzer and monitoring including a constellation diagram.
- some timeshift changes should make timeshift more stable.
- Improved MDAPI compatibililty and fixes.

I was able to download the file via the mega.nz link. But Firefox told before that smartdvb.net is a website with malicious software, which i ignored. Now Chrome tells the same. That's interesting, because four days ago Chrome did not. I mentioned this issue here (german): https://www.dvbcube.org/index.php?topic=32856.0
Also suggested that perhaps somebody wants to harm @jackjavo or his project by marking it as a malicious website or software.
As a second solution, you can disable the check for malicious websites/software at the privacy options in Chrome or at the security options in Firefox. I would do this temporarily, if needed.

EDIT: Indeed, the status of smartdvb.net in Google Safe Browsing list was updated at 16.04.17: https://www.google.com/transparencyreport/safebrowsing/diagnostic/index.html?hl=de#url=http://www.smartdvb.net/tempsite/index.html
EDIT2: Funny: Entering only "smartdvb.net" into the search field results in: No harmful contents found  ::)

... I am using the latest LAV Filter I have 0.68.
The latest version of LAV filters is 0.69: https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases

However, I still can't get uhd to work. Smart will tune to the station and then simply will freeze. After force-close and restart smart will again tune and freeze.
You're right, dada. I switched on my iGPU, which is also Intel HD Graphics 530, and connected the display to its DVI Interface on the mainboard. This results in the same freezing issues. Tuning to SD or HD channels, i have strange rectanglur tearing flickering at the left side of the video, which vanishes after a few seconds. Tuning to UHD 4k channels, i have exactly the same freezing issues. It seems to be luck, if there comes UHD video or a freezer, with roughly 70-80 % freezing.
After that i checked Mediaportal and MPC-HC x64. Having the same LAV decoder and EVR renderer settings they are freezing too. I found out that the issue must have something to do with the EVR renderer. Using Video Mixing Renderer 9, everything runs stable but without DXVA hardware acceleration.

Same filter works with MPC-HC.
With EVR, i have similiar crashes like in SmartDVB and Mediaportal. Video from UHD channels, 4k HEVC Main10.

Conclusion:
Using Nvidia GTX 960, LAV filters 0.69, Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR), everthing runs very stable.
Using Intel HD Graphics 530, LAV filters 0.69, Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR), at least HEVC runs very unstable.

Hi Joutungwu,
to complicate the issue, I tested hevc encoded files in mp4 container using Smart RC3 and 5.6. DVBViewer (by "media fiie" option) with the same settings (EVR renderer and LAV 09.23, installed today). Display of 8bit 4k files was okay and smooth, 10 bit files were stuttering using both, smart and DVBV. No change using SAT input, still freezing.

@dada: could you post your connection settings? Most HEVC channels use AAC,  what AAC decoder are you using. Did you also try a clean install just to be sure.

HEVC Main 10 (10-bit) profile is not fully supported by Intel HD Graphics 530. Only Main profile (8-bit) has full hardware acceleration. Have a look at

Hi Joutungwu,
I actually read all these info. And it is true, I tested different hevc files with 8 and 10 bits using SDVB media play. Media play used LAV splitter, LAV video decoder 0.96-23 (latest build), EVR and AC3 for Audio. 8 bit showed like perhaps 2% cpu and 10 bit like 20%. Hard ware accej was used in both cases and video plus audio was ok.

Hi Jack,
good to hear from you. filter settings were: EVR or madVR, LAV 0.96-23 (nightly build), AC3 or LAV for audio. Usind mad VR I get audio for like 2 seconds, but the screen remains black and SDVB stalls. SDVB seems to lock to the frequency. Looks like buffer problems to me. I thought about a clean install, have not done this yet, always installed over the previous version.

Hi

About the malware reports from google.  Some time ago the wordpress site i had got hacked and my provider shut down the domain.  Luckilly i had an old backup,  non wordpress site,  i could revert to.  Now google seems to have problems with an old 015a zip archive from years ago which gave some false positive (this old file noone ever would use still was linked on the old backup site,   genpix.dev in that archive  was obfuscated for reverse engineering which was also noted and reported as a non problematic false positive at that time). I don't know what the firefox issues are,  but presume it might be related to that.  Of course I've removed the zip archive.  Seems a bit premature for google to take such measures,  as they state themselves hacked sites won't be held against people,  and i also find it difficult to believe they would take such drastic measures without truely investigating such issues for software with an otherwise impeccable reputation. Certainly bad PR which might scare new users away.

@dada you mention still not being able to view UHD.  Did you also have problems with rc2 and uhd?  Did any previous recent version work better or have you never been able to watch UHD correctly.  I don't think it's main app buffering related as this is quite bulletproof now and your i7 should be more than capable of handling that.  Perhaps smartavsrc related or decoder related.  Did you try a different uhd video decoder or try to change lav settings,  you could for example enable the lav audio sync option and see if that makes a difference,  or try vmr9 etc?  Does it happen on all uhd channels irrespective of audio type (ac3 or aac)? You have no issues with other dvb apps and uhd from your tevii?  To rule out perhaps issues with your tevii and uhd (how does the rest of your smartdvb.log look,  you see continuity errors perhaps? )

Best regards

Hi JJ,
i wrote a long response just a few minutes ago, but it got lost somehow. To repeat it shortly: I did a clean install and got UHD working under special conditions ( my Hardware is in the sig). Using EVR always failed. madVR and VMR9 resulted in sound and video (madVR was better). All decoders except the one for AC3 had to be LAV, otherwise there was no HW help by intel 530. Without HW cpu use was 100%, with HW 30-40%. Video was still not without stutters. DVBViewer also did not work with standard conditions, but I did not experiment. However, the situation was not stable. Sometimes when I closed Smart and restarted using excactly the same settings, I found a locked frequency but only like 2 seconds of audio and no video, and after this a stall. That's why I was thinking about a buffer problem. I can send you a log of this occurence, if that would help. I'll try your suggestions when I have some time tomorrow.

Hi  dada,

Of course you can send me the complete logs,  but since you mention also having similar issues with dvbv i'm starting to think it might be tevii related in your case,  perhaps the higher throughput does not agree with the tevii if so might be system/device or perhaps driver related.

Hi JJ,
I also thought about problems with the Tevii and/or its USB driver but I tested another card (PCIe DVBSky S950C) and had similar problems. I looked through the logs, of course without understanding too much of it, but there are errors mentioned and a full timeshift buffer after a few minutes (it is set t0 1 GB). I had to use the task-manager for closing Smart because Smart was unresponsive for a few minutes after the crash.
I attach 3 short logs.
Thank you for your help!

I invested some time again today playing with UHD.  I actually got dvbv going with similar settings compared to sdvb. All decoders were LAV 0.69-23 except for the AC3 decoder which was AC3 filter. If this was important I did not test. This collection of LAV was important because otherwise HW support by intel igpu 530 did not work. In addition, dvbv custom EVR was imperative. VMR9 showed some life but no other renderer, not even madVR which functions in sdvb. Under these conditions, regarding my setup, CPU load was only about 25% and video was fairly smooth. I tested Pearl, SES demo, and UHD1 (HD+ which is actually FTA during the day). So far so good.
However, and this is a mystery to me, this was not a stable situation. Once video and audio was running fine, it went on for like 2 hours without problems but when I stopped dvbv and restarted it without any alterations it could happen that I had audio for 2 seconds accompanied by a black screen and then a crash (like experienced with sdvb, as mentioned before). No idea on my part what that could mean.
@JJ I tested sdvb and dvbv crosswise with Tevii and DVB Sky. I was sometimes successful in all combinations provided I used madVR with sdvb and the custom renderer with dvbv. Dvbv custom renderer yielded better results compared to madVR. The instability problems with respect to new starts (sometimes resulting in 2 seconds audio, black screen and ensuing crash) were the same in all combinations. Seems very tricky. I remember vaguely that the new 5.9.4 dvbv source filter was reporting some buffer overflows although running fine.

Didn't i already wrote about my two graphics cards inside the same system, showing a total different behaviour regarding the stability of UHD when using EVR with LAV decoders?  :hmm

Hi Joutungwu
yes I saw your comment on the EVR. That's why I started fiddling with different EVRs and ended with different ones for each soft.
As overall conclusion after some more experimentation today It seems simply chancy whether one gets a decent working connection to the GPU or not. When I try the same station under the same settings many times I sometimes get audio and video but mostly only short audio before the crash. This is for SDVB and DVBV and also the 2 cards make no difference with respect to this. I do not have a graphics card which I could use.

@JJ
I forgot to answer your questions! RC2 also did not work out of the box, but I did not try many different settings. Previous versions I did not test. I have no other hevc filter which I could try and yes I changed LAV audio settings with no success. VMR9 did sometimes work but badly. Different audio made no difference. But, to be cautious, as I stated above, mostly, even with previously working settings, correct display failed. so all my results are not on a solid base..

Well, I get more and more puzzled. I knew that with VMR9 I can start UHD channels reproducibly, of course, without HW accell, and choppy video. Today, while UHD1 was running (badly with high cpu usage) I switched from VMR9 to EVR (which never worked if used right from the start). I did not trust my eyes at the result: it was perfect! clean smooth audio and video at about 50% CPU usage. I checked LAV: no HW accell. I thought, ok, i7 6700k cpu should be able to perform this way. And now the bad part: After closing and restarting SDVB I was not able to reproduce it. :enno

Hi dada,
i don't use timeshift. Maybe this explains, why i got UHD more often working than you while testing, even right from the start?
Unfortunately, this doesn't solve it. Most times it's not working. I guess this is related to the Intel GPU drivers causing the problem.  :-\

50 % CPU load fits to my observations, if UHD works with HD G. 530 by chance.

I fully understand how frustrating this problem is.  umpf

Hi

Yes looks like these problems are intel HD related which would be strange when not even using HW acceleration.  I myself have an older intel HD GPU totally incapable of running HEVC fluently but it runs HEVC ok,  albeit stuttering, but still.  You would expect newer intel GPU to have less issues especially if not even HW accel is involved.  Did you try changing the lav HW acceleration options (dxva native or copy back  seem to work best on my intel,  contrary to the intel hd accelleration which runs worse for me).  Of course it's frustrating if you have a totally capable system and have such problems with HEVC.

@Cookie: good to hear that,  haven't had much reports yet about German DVB-T2 working.  Are you using MPLP for that device,  and if so did that work for you with the default MPLP implementation?
Titel: Re: SmartDVB 0.5.0.51 RC3
Beitrag von: dada am 22 April, 2017, 16:19
Hi Jack,
yes, now I am pretty sure that this is all intel-related. I installed the latest drivers for 530 yesterday (dated march this year), nothing was changed, same problems. They only seem to be fixing things for stupid games...
And also yes: I tested any possible alteration offered by LAV for HW support...did not change anything. It all seems very unstable because, when once I had it running (I guess, by chance :Kopf ) I could even switch between UHD channels using different audio filters without problems.

I bought the skylake because I was thinking that it would be a great energy-saver avoiding a 120 W graphics card. It works fine for most video including 8bit hevc, but the 10 bit version seems to be treated only pitifully. I have no idea (and no money to try)whether kabylake does better.

Edit: I hope I did not waste too much of your time!

Hi dada,

No problem. Of course it's not nice to have invested much in a system to have such issues,  but i would hope intel would step up a bit there and not let his customers down.  From my perspective It's good to know about these intel hd driver issues in terms of support, so nothing wasted there .  You wouldn't be able to try win7 on the same system (dual boot or something)?  But i can imagine this might be a bit overkill considering current HEVC content,  and for all you know you would have the same problems. Btw i agree about the efficiency of such integrated gpu's,  one does accept not having a true gaming gpu,  but good enough for everything else so strange these things seem not driver stable or that intel would  not give this priority.  I would be pretty pissed if i had bought such a system and couldn't get my money's worth.

Best regards

das kann ich mal problemlos versuchen, werde berichten.

edit: könnte was dran sein. Mein W10pro  ist 64bit, Smart 32bit, installiert habe ich beide LAV Versionen. Welche verwendet wird, weiß ich aber nicht...habe nicht darauf geachtet. Das wird vielleicht interessant, aber heute nicht mehr :)

hi, would be odd indeed if the 32 and 64 bit versions of LAV would clash, i wouldn't expect that tbh. The 64 bit LAV version won't even show up in the connection dialog only the 32 bit version, it's impossible to use the 64 bit version

Hi
did not have the time to test yet, one of my two cats decided to climb a 18 meter tree and not find the way back....kept me busy for a while.  :o

Some points i found out about using Skylake HD Graphics 530 with LAV Decoders 0.69 and EVR to decode 4k (UHD) HEVC Main10 (10 bit) video from UHD channels:

- As @jackjavo wrote, it's not possible to use x64 LAV decoders with x86 DVB software or video players.

- It is possible to try x64 LAV decoders by installing MPC-HC x64 because LAV x64 decoders are implemented internally.

- Using Hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) results in crashes most of the times or always, depending on the software but there is no dependency of using x64 or x86 software/decoders.

- Without DXVA2 for HEVC the x64 LAV video decoder performs much better than the x86 LAV video decoder on Intel i5-6500 CPU with slightly lower CPU load. The same UHD record can be played very smoothly with x64 decoders while it stutters with x86 decoders. Naturally the CPU load is relatively high without DXVA2. When playing the record with x64 decoder, even opening Windows start menu causes stuttering.

I forgot to mention this earlier. Smart of course does not even try to use the 64 bit LAV decoders. I tested UHD channels again a couple of times without arriving at a stable setup using intel Graphics 530. Also with DVBV there was no success in that respect.

Hi dada,
did you also try to record some UHD video in renderless mode and play it with MPC-HC x64 (not x86!) with DXVA2 switched off for HEVC internally (Optionen -> Interne Filter ! -> Video-Decoder -> Hardware Acceleration -> Codecs for HW Decoding -> HEVC off)?

I guess there is no x64 DVB software available at the moment, unfortunately. At least i don't know any.
