Re: SmartDVB 0.4.0 Beta 1 released
« Antwort #45 am: 18 Juni, 2014, 13:35 »
Hi Ritschibie,

No problem, in the past i must have had debug sessions like this (with remote users so to speak) like a zillion times. The name of the game here is perseverance.

This doesn't sound like the dual tuner switch problem you had before, since the problem occurs when switching to a different station on the same sat/frequency list. So i presume selecting devices etc now works ok now for u?

Did the crash start after you enabled the CI (and copied your TBSCIApi.dll to devices?)?. Could be the exception is from there since it must be from somewhere outside of the debug scope of the application hence some external module (could also be some codec/plugin related problem if one analyzes it like that). Btw the app comes with a pre-installed TBSCIApi.dll, if i remember correctly from other testers some TBSCIApi.dll's worked worse compared to others, so maybe it would be best if you tried the original supplied with the installed instead of a copy with some different version then the supplied default by SmartDVB. Could be i'm wrong and this is totally unrelated to the CI, but otherwise i would expect a crash report.

Did you do a clean install or upgrade from previous beta/version? This test does have some modification/additions to the DS connection menu so i cannot rule out some other issue, maybe codec related.

Here's a link to the default .DLL in case you deleted, overwrote that:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51980102/TbsCIapi.dll

jack
edit: btw if this keeps failing without a crash report possibility, a smartdvb.log/bda.log after such crash might give useful information (but not necessarily though :()

Hi Jack,
after more tests now my conclusion:
I used the beta 2 you sent for testing. The HEVC version gave somewhat better results but no major difference to what I reported previously with respect to transcoded recordings. Going through the many ffmpeg logs (which all showed proper functioning of ffmpeg) I found that whenever a real transcoding was required (like for mp4, wmv, or mpg) my CPU gave up (up to 100% load) and the recordings were too short. When frames were only copied the recordings were fine. So it is definitely not a Smart problem but a deficency of CPU power of my PC...which will be changed in a couple of months, hopefully.  :)

Hi,

Ok good to know. It's a bit disappointing that your Athlon has so much problems with real-time transcoding, doesn't seem the slowest system also. I tested this on i5 myself which obviously is enough. There are many ffmpeg builds with different optimizations on the net, I used some well known distribution. I'll do some searching to see if there might be some build which might run faster on your system. This also means that you won't be able to transcode when streaming of course, since there true transcoding is always needed.
I'll make sure to add some comments about this in the documentation/help file so other users who encounter this don't bump their heads against a wall.
Testing hevc with the current codecs won't do you much good either btw, you need at least an i7 with  the current, non optimized immature, codecs for fluent results with all streams. But it's just a matter of time for HEVC hardware acceleration combined with quality codecs to solve this, to me it looks like a deja vu when comparing this with HD some years ago.
Anyone else here with capable enough systems want to look at HEVC atm?

ok but just to be clear, this should only pertain to certain HD streams/records, for SD lower system specs should be sufficient even for transcode streaming/recording..

SmartDVB 0.4.0 Beta 2 released
« Antwort #50 am: 20 Juni, 2014, 17:45 »
btw i've released the beta 2 on the site. There might still be some issues, but then again like mentioned before beta's don't need to be perfect. Decided to include the HEVC support and also dada interested to know if the non timeshift video now seems better (i think i might have modified some problematic code there, not sure how or if it would affect you since it doesn't occur with me like mentioned before)..

could you explain better what happens. Do you see the EVR in the connection dialog, and when you select it it doesn't work? Or don't u even see it in the connection dialog comobox where see the other renderers (VMR9) etc, and do other renderers work?

SmartDVB 0.4.0 Beta 2a hotfix released
« Antwort #56 am: 23 Juni, 2014, 18:30 »
Zitat
There’s a serious introduced bug with the current 0.4.0 beta 2 version. Here’s a quick release of a replacement SmartDVB.exe which should address this issue. The issue was related to a bugfix when parsing multiple EIT languages for a single station combination.
