SmartDVB
« am: 30 April, 2014, 18:01 »
Hello everyone,

I've released a new 0.4.0 beta 1 test build:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51980102/SmartDVB040Beta1.zip

Main additions this time:

- support for multiple LNB's on a per satellite basis, based on frequency selection. You should be able to define more than 1 lnb with the satellite settings dialog (main menu 'add/edit frequencies > settings') for a specific satellite. This might be most useful for north american (c-band) users, so please let me know if this works as advertised for
you since I'm not able to test this very thorough.
- MadVR support. MadVR will show up as a selectable renderer only if installed. Please note that you require a strong system setup and 3d graphics video card to make use of MadVR, so don't go trying this on older systems please.
- left/right stereo Audio spectrum.
- client/server mode with HTTP or UDP streaming, including transcoding with an external transcoder like ffmpeg.exe (latter included in the installer archive). Requires testing.
- transport stream records transcoding, allowing you to save the recording to mp4/wmv/mp4/mkv/avi/mpg through ffmpeg transcoding (note mp4 transcoding will not work on XP systems, this is a known issue atm).
- parental lock settings.
- various scanner (normal scanner not blindscanner) enhancements and modifications (changes detection when updating, more frequencly list sorting etc) , requires testing.
- basic stream analyzer.
- providerid's should now be detected, where possible.
- and more
- as always lots of bug fixes and corrections/modifications.

As always, although quite extensive tests already have been done for this new beta, please still be careful when installing beta versions, preferably do a clean install or if you would like to test the upgrade process make sure you backup your previous install (the installer should backup your essential files if so required, but you never know of course).

Also i hope the freeze problems reported here previously which as noted might be related to timeshift settings are solved with this test..

best regards,
JackJavo

Yeesss :)

Made some short tests this morning ...

udp streaming (to my nexus 7 tablet using vplayer) -> ok
transcoded records (avi,mkv) ok

ok thanks, hope's all ok here and you're all enjoying the nice weather too, from what i read it's a lot warmer sometimes in Germany compared to here..
@sil: is that udp streaming with transcoding enabled? Also when changing stations does the stream on the tablet update, or haven't u tried that, i think udp streaming itself might be a bit more stable compared to previously.

@sil: is that udp streaming with transcoding enabled?

no... but tried yet again with transcoding ... looks also ok :)

But channel changing (with transcoding or not) stops the stream :(

After retstart streaming on the client it works again ...

Hi Jack, many thanks for the new beta! I justed installed it and was very pleasantly surprised. I don't know whether you remember my problems with multiple HD PIP windows which did not work (very choppy). No problem now! I see an increase in CPU usage of course, about 4 % increase per window, so no problem at all. I have timeshift for all windows enabled.
Regards :)

@sil: ok, this tends to be a problem with udp clients (vlc acts the same btw). Perhaps http streaming would work better, also with reconnects (i've seen VLC behave nicer also with HTTP streaming compared to UDP), i presume you're testing this locally, http streaming would also allow easier access from outside your LAN network for sure.
@dada: yes i do remember, can't remember anything specific i might have changed concerning this though, but some fix somewhere must have done something (perhaps it was also timeshift related somehow)..

I tested the UDP streaming in my home network yesterday: Works great! It streamed to my Smartphone SGS2 using vplayer or VLC as client. In the UDP settings of Smart it is only necessary to input the IP of the client (my smartphone) and a port (I used 1111), so ( in my case) UDP://@192.168.178.28:1111 (same then in the client) With HD stations I get frequent buffer problems in the client, with SD stations there is no problem, have to play with the settings to get that solved. Have not tried the transcoding yet but I suspect that my PC is too slow for that to be effective.
And I forgot, channel change stops the stream as SiL already mentioned.

greetings data, good to hear from you again and thanks for the continued testing :)
Ok i would expect normal UDP streaming to work, these stream stops on channel change are problematic with UDP clients, most seem to have this, i'm quite sure it's some timestamp related issue. Could be that HTTP would work better (also might depend on the client somewhat), probably other protocols like RTP etc, might also fare better here too (latter not implemented yet of course).

Might the buffer overflows with HD have to do with the capability of that device or client program to process such high bandwidth streams? (could be another problem of course). You might still try transcoding then, to perhaps see if a lower HD bandwith to that device works differently, providing, like you mention, you have enough horsepower to transcode. I would still be interested to know how transcoding works, and if it works at all, with slower systems like yours though.

Thanks for the feedback, Jack. I'll try your suggestions but i guess the capabílties of my Galaxy S2 might be the limiting factor, transcoding then should be effective, though. Will keep you informed.

I imagine your galaxy s2 doesn't have problems playing HD files local? If so it  could be a player problem or perhaps still some stream buffering UDP specific problem from smartdvb's (you don't see lost packets or buffer overflows at tools > settings > udp I presume, but even if you don't sending udp packets can behave erratically sometimes) side or coupled to your local network/router, you're also not using multicast I presume? (which could lead to more issues with wrongly configured routers or routers that simply don't support multicast, but probably not otherwise you wouldn't even see SD video).

The S2 has no problems playing back HD video locally (or via DLNA). SD streams pose no problem. HD streams sometimes start ok but start detereorating within ~ 10 seconds. Buffer overruns are frequent with HD. Increase of buffer size reduces the number of overruns but has no effect on the quality  of the video on the S2. Did not try multicast. Activation of udp transcoding did not have any effect.
I tried HTTP streaming but did not get any activity in the "bandwidth" bar. I must be doing something wrong there.
Before I forget: My multiple HD PIP windows problem was obviously solved by the option to enable timeshift for PIP. When I disable this option the problem returns!

Ok dada, i'll try to see if something might not be optimal with the udp code perhaps on somewhat slower systems. DLNA might be other forms of streaming (maybe even http streaming in some situations, but also other, probably not UDP). You don't see bandwith with http settings because it's waiting for connections, unlike udp it doesn't start streaming until a client connects first. So it's probably ok, you just need to enter the http url at some client to access the stream, after which the bandwidth usage should update too.
Are the pip symptoms exactly the same as with timeshift? I'll check what might be different here, it's not that the video stops/freezes is it? Might be some timing/delay problem with larger bandwidths there..

Activation of udp transcoding did not have any effect
Btw about this remark, do you mean you see video on the device with udp transcoding enabled, but still have buffer overruns or video detereoration? Would be odd if the latter would be a device problem now since the default bandwith there is set to something like 900kbps (is it about that with u?) which should be less than SD so the bottleneck could or should not be there then. Might be the transcoding in your situation is just too slow, dunno? You can also generate ffmpeg reports (some ffmpeg*.txt files will be created in your application data folder with this settings, don't forget to turn that option off again) and see what ffmpeg tells you (in case you have no video at all with transcoding enabled)..

About timeshift with HD PIP: with timeshift for PIP disabled the display in the HD windows is choppy and distorted but not stalled, with timeshift enabled it is perfect with even 4 windows open.
"Btw about this remark, do you mean you see video on the device with udp transcoding enabled, but still have buffer overruns or video detereoration?" Yes, for the HD situation. The bandwith limitation is not reflected in the bandwidth bar. It shows about 3-4Mbit/s for the normal SD situation but the same when transcoding is enabled.
I'll generate ffmeg reports!
Thanks for the HTTP info, did not check that :embarassed:
