New 3.3.6 Linux Kernel, Xorg Server 1.12.1 with the most recent drivers, SpaceFM replaces PCManFM-Mod, Udisks replaces PMount, and an optional firewall for wired connections. To enable the firewall hit <TAB> and add “firewall” at the first boot screen. All incoming traffic is blocked. Support for wireless is coming soon. 06/25/12: Updated boost_1_49_0, cifs-utils-5.5. Continued to rework panel menu by adding Multimedia and rearranging a few more desktop files. Rewrote /usr/bin/pmagic_check_libs from scratch.06/24/12: Updated xdg-user-dirs-0.13, xdg-utils-1.1.0_rc1. Xdg day! Removed the help button from the panel and added it to the panel menu. Rearranged some of the menu entries because they were in the wrong category. Added Erase Disk and Clonezilla to the desktop. A lot of people seem to have trouble finding them in the panel menu.06/23/12: Updated conky-1.9.0. Added libmcs-0.7.2, libmowgli-0.7.1. Reverted back to module init tools. For some reason kmod isn't blacklisting modules and hangs the system when depmod is executed while /lib/modules is a union. I'm sure these issues are my fault, but I need some time to sort it out. Kmod is NOT a drop in replacement for module-init-tools.06/22/12: Updated xz-5.0.4. Fixed problem when the NVIDIA packages are installed on a non NVIDIA system. Added option to put squashfs.ko in initrd.img/lib if your custom kernel has squashfs built as a module. Parted Magic's kernel modules are in a squashfs, so that puts the cart in front of the horse. The kernel document also states this now.06/21/12: Updated psmisc-22.18, clamav-0.97.5, ethtool-3.4.1. This one was a pain in the butt. I spent a good part of the day building the nVidia drivers. The source was adapted from some stuff I found on slackbuilds.org. I'll post the updated kernel drivers every time the kernel is updated. The drivers are located here: http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/packages/extra/ . Just put these packages in pmagic/pmodules and use the “Kill Nouveau” option in the failsafe menu. There is also a new option in the Extras boot menu. You can start Nwipe at boot without starting X. Parted Magic 2012_07_0507/04/12: Updated grep-2.13, mount-gtk-1.2.1. Happy 4th!07/03/12: Updated linux-3.4.4. Added “setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 &” to /root/.xinitrc. New Fail Safe boot option “Load NVIDIA”. This loads the nvidia kernel module and blacklists nouveau. You can do the same thing by adding “blacklist=nouveau nvidia=yes” to any boot loader's append line. You need the NVIDIA packages found on partedmagic.com to load the nvidia kernel module.07/02/12: Added “Erase MBR” option to “Erase Disk”. Upped kernel command line parameter from vmalloc=256MiB to vmalloc=288MiB. Added “xset dpms 0 0 0 &” to /root/.xinitrc07/01/12: Updated udevil-0.2.9. All mount and umount issues resolved. /etc/mtab moved back to a text file.06/29/12: Updated lshw-B.02.16, partclone-0.2.49. Removed module-init-tools. Added kmod-9. 07/13/2012: Updated gparted-0.13.0.07/12/2012: Updated exfat-utils-0.9.7, fuse-exfat-0.9.7, gparted-0.12.1-git from 07/12/2012. I personally enabled the use of exfat-utils. You can create, label, and check exfat with GParted now.07/11/2012: Updated udev-182. Another all day project long overdue. I also went over the firmware directory which was a mess. If a device or a program no longer works, please let me know. I figured the udev update was going to be messy.07/09/2012: Updated xorg-server-1.12.3. Improvements made to /usr/bin/pmagic_zap_mbr and /init.07/08/2012: Updated btrfs-progs-20120708. Masked aufs /proc/mounts entries in init for mkfs.btrfs. I was getting the “mkfs.btrfs error checking mount status” nonsense. I should be able to update btrfs at will now. It took me a good 8 hours to figure this out. :/07/07/12: Updated pciutils-3.1.10, smartmontools-5.43. Added tango-icon-theme-0.8.90. I pretty much deleted the entire icon directory and reworked it from scratch. The overall appearance is more consistent. Most of the /usr/bin/pmagic* scripts needed to be reworked for the icon change.
The most significant enhancement is with GParted 0.13.0, which now shows when there is a difference between the file system size and the partition size. Thanks to work by Mike Fleetwood this resolves bug #499202 that has been open since 2007. With this new feature, users can learn if there is unallocated space within a partition that can then be put to good use.Another important application change is a fix for bug #678831 which resolves a problem with overlapping partitions when resizing an extended partition.Also new in this release: Adds web browser icon to desktop Adds menu button keyboard shortcut to bring up Fluxbox root menu (bug #578842) Useful when using GParted Live without a mouse Updates Linux kernel to 3.2.21-3 Based on Debian Sid repository (as of 2012/Jul/14) Includes new GParted 0.13.0 release
Most ambitious release of Parted Magic to date! LVM hang fixed. Garbled Russian translation problem with Clonezilla fixed. Added nfs4 support for Clonezilla. Truecrypt hang fixed. Roxterm 2.6.5 replaces lxterminal. Fixed “cryptsetup luksOpen” bug. SVG icons now look like they are supposed to. Added LOG support to iptables kernel driver. HAL has been removed. You can now boot Parted Magic from Linux RAID partitions (/dev/md*). Device Mapper and LUKS Crypt should work in the next release. GParted bug fix release. This version of GParted fixes a failure to mount rescued file systems larger than 2 GiB or file systems that start after the initial 2 GiB of the disk device.Parted Magic improvements include better support for Broadcom wireless, added a patch to fix loop encryption in mount for util-linux, and fixed the garbled serial number bug in Erase Disk when used with bad drives.Updated programs include gptfdisk-0.8.5, lm_sensors-3.3.2, firefox-14.0.1, xf86-video-nv-2.1.20, and gparted-0.13.1.
