ScummVM - Alte Adventures auf aktuellen Rechnern

Besseres Scrolling für The Dig, Full Throttle und Curse of Monkey Island
Das ScummVM-Projekt hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, vor allem alte LucasArts-Adventures auf aktuellen Rechnern und Betriebssystemen mittels einer plattformübergreifenden Virtual Machine zum Laufen zu bringen. Die Heiligabend veröffentlichte ScummVM-Version 0.7.0 bringt einiges Neues mit sich - darunter eine Unterstützung für weitere Nicht-LucasArts-Titel sowie für einige Macintosh-Versionen von LucasArts-Adventures.
Zu den 26 neu, aber größtenteils bisher nur rudimentär unterstützten Titeln zählen von Humongous Entertainment entwickelte Adventures und Lernspiele für jüngere Jahrgänge, etwa "Putt-Putt Goes To The Moon". Die unterstützten Mac-Versionen von auf LucasArts "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion" (SCUMM) aufbauenden Spielen sollen nun direkt von der Original-CD gestartet werden können; das Tool "rescumm" soll damit weitgehend unnötig geworden sein.
SCUMM wurde von LucasArts für viele bekannte Adventures eingesetzt, auch für "Monkey Island", "Day of the Tentacle" und "Sam & Max". Für die SCUMM-Spiele "The Dig", "Full Throttle" und "Curse of Monkey Island" soll ScummVM 0.7.0 nun mit einem weichen horizontalen Scrolling aufwarten und damit der Ausgabe der Original-Engine entsprechen.
Weiterhin werden nun auch per FLAC verlustlos komprimierte Audio-Dateien in Spielen wiedergegeben, Gleiches gilt für die komprimierte Sprache und Musik in den Revolution-Software-Titeln Broken Sword 1 und 2. Außerdem wurden sehr viele Fehler behoben. Auf der offiziellen Website legt das ScummVM-Team deshalb Nutzern ein Update auf die neue Version dringend ans Herz.
ScummVM 0.7.0 wird bereits für Windows, MacOS X (10.2 und 10.3), die Red-Hat-Linux-Distribution Fedora Core, Solaris 8 für Sparc, BeOS, PalmOS und PocketPC zum Download angeboten. Der Quellcode steht unter der GNU GPL (General Public License) ebenfalls zum Download und zur Weiterverwendung zur Verfügung.

Wer gerne die Klassiker spielt ohne viel Grafikorgie usw. der kommt an SUMMVM nicht vorbei, vor allem auf Rechnern für welche die Spiele eigentlich nie erschienen sind.
