FreeNAS 9.2.1.6 RC2
« Antwort #33 am: 30 Juni, 2014, 17:40 »
Release Notes

Samba updated to 4.1.9, ldb to version 1.1.17, and tdb to version 1.3.0
Netatalk updated to 3.1.2
Added extra safety belts and sane ACL behavior for CIFS sharing. Now when a ZFS dataset is created with the type set to Windows, or a Windows share is created on an existing dataset with "Apply Default Permissions" checked (a new GUI option in the CIFS sharing dialog), FreeNAS will make sure that the ACLs / ownerships are set properly for Windows and it will also make sure that the behavior of chmod(2) is set in ZFS such that it does not also destroy the Inherit, Delete or Delete Child ACLs whenever it's used.
No longer useful Inherit Owner, Inherit Permissions and Inherit ACLs GUI options removed. They can still be set in Auxiliary parameters if truly desired.
Delete potentially harmful kmem size tunables created (in former times) by the autotuner. Also updated autotuner to set tunables and sysctls according to current best practices.
Jails now auto-start properly when importing a volume containing jails.
The System Dataset now has its own Settings UI that allows you to control the placement of various sub-datasets under it.
The System Dataset will now migrate if you change the pool assignment, preserving your data and also moving it off the previous pool.
Several bugs which broke ZFS snapshot replication when snapshots expired before replication could complete successfully, or if the connection between the replication peers failed, have been fixed.
A new Virtualbox jail template has been added. Supporting Virtualbox in a jail is as easy as creating an instance of this template.
A .usb image is now being distributed that can be imaged to a USB key. This will boot into the installer which can ease installation on systems without an optical drive. This image will also work if burned to a CD.
Pool import time for healthy pools has been improved by a factor of 3x in many cases.
FreeNAS now includes the mpr driver, which is the officially sanctioned LSI 12 Gbps SAS HBA driver. Users who were using a tunable to load mps3 (the beta LSI driver) can safely delete that tunable as that driver has been removed from the build and replaced by the official driver.
FreeNAS includes an experimental in kernel iSCSI target, which can be enabled via the services -> iSCSI settings screen. Changing between the userland iSCSI target and the new kernel iSCSI target requires a reboot. Additionally while one should be able to migrate between targets at will this has not been well tested and VMWare at least notices the change. The new target is designed to be backed by zvols. While it works with files not all features are enabled and performance may suffer. The new target also enables FC target mode with a few additional tweaks. This is, again, an experimental feature largely aimed at Windows 2012 installations as an alternative to the stable, but feature-frozen, istgt (user-mode iSCSI) implementation.

Fix bug where use of NONE cipher in replication erroneously reported an error on a successful replication.
Don’t enable lz4 compression on replication by default if upgrading from a pre-9.2.1.7 release.
Multiple kernel iSCSI / CTL improvements. This includes VMWare VAAI and Microsoft ODX acceleration support, improved performance and fixes for number of bugs. Kernel iSCSI can be activated by checking the experimental target checkbox under services -> iSCSI.
Improve performance of viewing snapshots when replication tasks are set up.
Allow binding CIFS to specific IPs.
Fix LDAP bind URL when using TLS.
Validate AD advanced settings. If the GC or DC are manually specified make sure they are reachable.
Set UNIX permissions when the Mac permissions radio button is selected. Netatalk does not play nicely with ACLs.
Fix a bug in the mail sending routines used by FreeNAS. With some mailserver configurations the To: address could’ve been set to root instead of the address specified in the root user.
Fix a bug that prevented the system from showing the replicated status of a snapshot if the remote path differed from the local path.
Shellshock” security vulnerability in bash (which is not the system shell FreeNAS or FreeBSD) proactively closed.

FreeNAS 9.3
« Antwort #38 am: 09 Dezember, 2014, 13:08 »
Release Notes
Release Notes for FreeNAS 9.3-RELEASE

There are so many new features and enhancements in FreeNAS 9.3 that these
release notes will break them into categories.  In no particular order,
FreeNAS 9.3-RELEASE offers the following improvements:

[ Installation / Booting ]

* FreeNAS now uses ZFS for the boot device(s), also supporting selection
and mirroring of one or more boot devices for greater reliabilty.
The features of ZFS are also utilized to provide cloned "boot environments"
which allow the system to be rolled back (or even forked) to different OS
versions.

* A boot-time menu is provided for selecting and booting from a specific boot
environment, a new system->boot UI allowing the user to create, rename,
delete and select boot environments as well as running diagnostics on the
boot pool and adding/replacing drives for it.

* Both the installer and the installed system use the grub2 boot loader to
provide boot menus and boot-time UI.

* An install-time "Setup Wizard" is now provided to lead users who may be
new to FreeNAS through the installation and setup process.  Everything
from the user's language, pool, shares, directory services, and initial
settings can be set up through the Wizard.  The Wizard is also careful to
make no actual changes to the system until a final confirmation step, making
it harmless to enter/exit the wizard at any time and simply explore its
capabilities.

* The ISO installation image can now be used both for USB booting or CD
booting (the boot blocks allow for both usage scenarios), making a separate
USB image unnecessary.

[ Updating ]

* While the old manual, monolithic installation and update system is still
supported, the FreeNAS project has refactored its releases into
cryptographically signed packages, provided both as "deltas" from previous
release versions and as full packages, all of which are supplied from a
secure update server.  This server can be polled automatically (default:
once per day), any available updates being downloaded automatically.  When
new updates have been downloaded, the user will receive an alert and be given
the opportunity to apply them.

* Updates are offered along multiple, parallel "trains" that the user can
select from the Update UI.  Older stable trains will offer minimal number
of updates, more current trains will offer new features and a faster rate of
change, and completely experimental trains with new, untested features under
development will be offered to interested pre-release testers.

* Any train can be selected at the user's discretion at any time, trains can
be freely jumped between and, combined with the ZFS boot environment roll-back
feature, the user can experiment with hosting multiple trains in parallel.

* Using the new "install manifests" which allow this multi-train model
to work, it is now possible to verify that your installed bits conform to what
was originally installed (or last updated), making it possible to detect
tampering or inadvertent corruption of the system.

[ File sharing ]

* WebDAV file sharing is now supported.

* Samba upgraded to 4.1.13.

* NFSv4 support added, including kerberized NFS.

* Kernel iSCSI (CTL) has completely replaced the old iSCSI code, adding
support for VMWare VAAI (all 7 primitives), MS ODX and Windows 2012 Clustering
as well as much higher performance and space efficiency (zero'd blocks can now
be reclaimed).  Support for STUN and pool storage thresholds also makes VMWare
behavior far more robust when ZFS pools fill up.

* Kernel iSCSI sequently read performance has been sped up considerably by
improving the way such read requests interact with ZFS

* iSCSI nows supports associating to an iSNS server.

* AFP now allows allowhosts and denyhosts per share.

[ Directory Services ]

* AD / LDAP configurations are validated immediately after input.

* Kerberos Realms and Keytabs have joined the Direcory Services UI.

* Directory Services now based on SSSD (System Security Services Daemon) and
connections to LDAP servers done with SSL/TLS.

[ User Interface ]

* The much hated interface tabs are completely gone and the UI refactored
to put most common UI options first, more esoteric options hidden behind
Advanced modes.

* Settings and Directory Services UIs completely revamped and streamlined.

* Many hitherto difficult to discover features have been moved into their
own sub-categories, new icons also being added where applicable.  The
tree menu and the top-level icons have also been synchronized.

* New UI for CA and Certificate management.

* All tunables have been merged - loader, sysctl and rc.conf variables can
be managed from the same UI.

[ Security ]

* Software updates are cryptographically signed and validated, rendering the
hashes unnecessary for anything but manual updates.

* All passwords for services which have been associated with a FreeNAS/TrueNAS
storage device (e.g. AD, LDAP, VMWare, etc) are encrypted in the database.

[ Miscellaneous ]

* Jail templates have been simplified and only optional templates are
now listed.

* Jails can now use DHCP to acquire their IPv4 configuration; they no longer
require static IP configurations.

* ZFS features added: Embedded Data feature flag, general performance
improvements.

* ZFS snapshots can now be coordinated with VMWare so that whenever a
scheduled or manual snapshot is taken, snapshots of the VMs associated
with the related datastore are first done, then the ZFS snapshot is taken.
The temporary VMWare snapshots are then deleted on the VMWare side, so as
not to impact performance, but still exist in the ZFS snapshot and can be
used as "stable resurrection points" in that snapshot.
These "coordinated snapshots" can be found (and are specifically marked
as such) in the snapshot UI.

FreeNAS 9.10
« Antwort #42 am: 24 März, 2016, 05:30 »
Release Notes

OS:
The base OS version for FreeNAS 9.10 is now FreeBSD 10.3-RC3,
bringing in a huge number of OS-related bug fixes, performance

NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2545
« Antwort #43 am: 17 April, 2016, 20:45 »
Changelog

       IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!

Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
==================================================

Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THAN THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.

Install from scratch
====================
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media! **

Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.

Upgrade note:
=============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share setting.
You may need modifying your ftp settings, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
/var and /var/tmp size has changed.
After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your config System|Backup/Restore.

ZFS User note!
After upgrading, you must re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.

Permanent restrictions:
=======================
- It is not possible to format a SoftRAID disk with MSDOS FAT16/32.
- It is not possible to encrypt a disk partition, only complete disks are supported.
- AFP shares with TimeMachine support are limited to max. 4 shares.

Note:
=====
- iperf2 has been replaced for iperf3 because of inconsistent results for UDP above 2Gbps.
- iperf3 is not backwards compatible with iperf2.x. so you might also upgrade your client.

Requirements
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).

 *Note: LiveCD is not supported on swap mode except installation and upgrading.

Don't forget to backup the current system configuration of NAS4Free before upgrading!

1. System|Backup/Restore Restore your config.
2. Disks|Management  click on Clear config and Import disks to update configuration.
3. Disks|Management|Disk Edit  After step 2, you will need to re-activate S.M.A.R.T.
   monitoring for every device.

 *Note  If you have RAID controllers but cannot parse S.M.A.R.T. info properly,
  please add correct variables in System|Advanced|loader.conf to load the correct
  kernel modules for controller support. Then reboot and Clear config and Import disks
  again to update the configuration.

Improved security WebGUI access
===============================
Do you have WebGUI Login error 403?
Make shure the pc is in the same network!
by default the System|General Setup Hosts allow field is empty so any one on
the same network of LAN interface can access the WebGUI allowed.
With a space delimited set of IP or CIDR notation you can add computers from outer network.
As an example the outer IP address and LAN address for remote access.

Memory Disk driver (geom_xmd.ko)
================================
This version contains a special memory disk driver called "xmd".
If you find a bug on xmd, please report to NAS4Free forum. (http://forums.nas4free.org/)
This are its main features:

- on-demand memory allocation and de-allocation (zero fill/TRIM support)
- on-the-fly block level compression
- multiple compression methods and levels (none, LZ4/LZ4HC, ZLIB, LZMA2)
- mixed compressed blocks (can be changed at any time by xmdconfig)
- pre-compressed mfsroot by mkuzip(8) or mkulzma(8)
- provide the ioctl interface for the xmdconfig utility like mdconfig(8)

HAST (Highly Available Storage)
===============================
It is still experimental in the WebGUI. You need CLI in some tasks.
To evaluate HAST, you need the two same configured NAS4Free.
Currently iSCSI, CIFS, NFS, GPTUFS and ZFS on HAST is supported.
For master node of WebGUI, carp advskew is assumed as 0 or 1.

Special note for ZFS kernel parameter tuning
============================================
Now, the extension package is separated and released.
If you have a question, please visit our forum.

Extensions and ownCloud sample
==============================
You can install some PHP based packages easily.
