Alternate Pic View is a program that enables you to view image files and make some adjustments. It supports multiple formats, including BMP, JPG, PCX, TGA and WMF.

The interface of the application is familiar and easy to work with. Images can be imported with the help of the file browser or 'drag and drop' method. So, you can use some basic editing tools, such as line, arrow, rectangle, freehand, fill, text and pen, along with the undo and redo functions. But you can also zoom in and out, switch to full screen mode, create a slideshow, enable thumbnail view mode, crop a selection and make Alternate Pic View retain the EXIF/IPTC information.

Alternate Pic View allows you to apply several effects to the pictures; they revolve around rotation, mirror, flip, invert, sharpen, blur, contrast, brightness, pixelization, noise and red eye removal, just to name a few.

The graphic editing tool supports keyboard shortcuts and multiple languages for the interface, has a good response time and contains user documentation. We have not come across any issues throughout our testing; Alternate Pic View did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs throughout our testing.  Thanks to its intuitive layout, less experienced users can easily find their way around this app.

Gems. Shift-click any heart when likes are enabled, and a large star will show up in upper right of picture, indicating this image is a “gem””. The signed-in person’s name is faintly shown on the star. The star cannot be undone by others (i.e. first come, first serve!), just the original poster, by shift-clicking again.

Bugs:

Fixed a bug that caused disabling posting more comments to cause the page not to render.
Clarified months vs minutes in the timestamp on comments. They both used to be ‘m’.
Fixed a bug whereby the published link on publish form was not properly updated if switching between settings (to/from php, etc.) or on initial load.

E-Mage is a cross-platform, multi-algorithm bulk JPG, PNG, SVG, and GIF file optimizer tool for lossless image compression.

You are given the ability to choose and set the algorithm for the file type you are working with and then the image. One requirement is that the algorithm must be selected before image selection since the optimization process immediately starts once you choose the image(s). Also, once the process is completed, there is no way to undo it.

E-Mage allows bulk processing, however, it can only be done via individual files and not entire folders. Once you have all the files optimized, you can then inspect the results from the bottom of the main window. You can view the original and new size, the percentage of reduced size, and the used tools. Additionally, you can observe the amount of total saved bytes and the percentage from the last line in the inspection area.
