This week Microsoft released the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Besides many security fixes, and changes which are provided by Windows Update allready, it also includes many fixes which were not available through Windows Update, such as an fix for a issue with audiodevices connected by HDMI.Team MediaPortal recommends the installation of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 on your HTPC.For MediaPortal 1 this means that we have to release a very small hotfix, because with MediaPortal 1.1.2 and earlier versions, you will encounter a warning that you run MediaPortal on an not supported Operating System, as soon as you install the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.If you are not using Windows 7, then an upgrade to MediaPortal 1.1.3 is not required.
The release of 1.2.0 beta is a big milestone in the MP 1.2.0 development cycle. During its development we had to make a few tough decisions, which ultimately resulted in a lot of work and delays, yet also brought MP1 to a completely new level of usability.
With the release of 1.2.0 RC we have almost reached the end of the 1.2.0 development cycle. After the release of 1.2.0 Beta, we entered a 'feature freeze'. This means that in 1.2.0 RC you will find mainly bug fixes.Notable changes since 1.2.0 BetaWith more than 150 bug fixes since the release of 1.2.0 Beta, it would be too much to list all changes here. So the following list focuses on a few highlights which we have done since the release of 1.2.0 Beta.Find out about the changes introduced in 1.2.0 Alpha, and 1.2.0 Beta in the related news.MediaPortal Extensions Installer (MPEI)We have added version compatibility, as well as many other fixes, to MPEI. Now you can easily identify the extensions compatible with your installed version of MediaPortal and avoid issues due to incompatible versions.Due to this required change, unfortunately we could not avoid that MPEI files for 1.2.0 Beta will not work with 1.2.0 RC and vice versa. This means you must wait for extension authors to provide new installers for 1.2.0 RC. Luckily it is very easy to update them. We have developed the new version of MPEI so that extension authors only need to install 1.2.0 RC, open their MPEI project file, and save it again. It will automatically update to the new version and add the required compatibility information. This new file can then be posted to install extensions for 1.2.0 RC.If any of your favorite extensions do not yet have an installer compatible with 1.2.0 RC, you may wish to update your extensions before updating to 1.2.0 RC. If you are running MediaPortal 1.2.0 Beta, then all your installed extensions (plugins and skins) will continue to work in 1.2.0 RC! You only need the new installer for upgrades/new releases of an extension.Navigation fix in icon viewFor ages there was a issue when navigating in (big) icons layout from one row to another row with fewer items. In some cases, MP would jump back to the first row, and thus would not display the items of the last row. Remember, because of the changes to the MediaPortal Extensions Installer (MPEI), none of the previous extension installers will work with 1.2.0 RC. The author just has to re-save and deploy the MPEI file. Manually stop TV-Service! On some systems our installer is not able to update the TV-Server installation because its files are locked or the service can not be stopped. In 1.3.0 we will completely rework our Installer to take care of this problem once and for all. For upgrades to 1.2.0 RC we recommend you manually stop the TV-Service, and make sure, via Windows Task Manager (enable the "all users" option), that the TvService.exe process is really gone before starting to upgrade.
Changelog: 3715 - MediaPortal crashes on exit Under some circumstances it is possible that MediaPortal.exe crashes when you close it. Mainly systems running for a very long time are affected. 3688 - scanning for analog radio stations makes TV-Guide unusable 3718 - under special circumstances, TV-Service will crash on start up This occurs if the WMC plugin for the Hauppauge Colossus or HD-PVR is installed. 3720 - update of satellite transponders inside TV-Server Configuration is not working We previously grabbed the transponder lists directly from the FastSatfinder.com website. Due to load issues this cause for FastSatfinder.com, this is no longer possible, and when you attempt to update them in 1.2.0 or ealier, all your transponder lists are deleted. The team from fastsatfinder has kindly agreed to continue support for us with updated transponder lists which we will host on our own web servers. So 1.2.1 will now download the transponder lists directly from our server. 1.2.1 has the latest Transponder lists integrated. 3723 - default graph behaviour for TV-Cards entering idle state is "pause" instead of "stop" In 1.2.0 we introduced a new feature that can decrease the time required to tune/change channels by not destroying the graph when the card enters idle state. The related "Advanced Tuning" options are "pause" (keep the graph) and "stop" (destroy the graph). Sadly, during a clean installation of 1.2.0, the default option was set to "pause". Although the "pause" option does give you the speed improvement, it is not supported by many TV-cards (drivers issue). Thus, in 1.2.1 the safer "stop" option is now set as the default. If you did a clean installation of 1.2.0 and now upgrade to 1.2.1, the current setting will change to "stop" for all your TV-Cards. This should ensure maximum stability for all users. If you want to use "pause" instead of "stop", then you have to reset that option in TV-Server Configuration.
You can find the download link at the bottom of these release notes, but it has been placed at the bottom for a reason. There are few things you need to understand before you begin the installation. This is an "Alpha Release", meaning support & features will be on the lighter side, while bugs and errors could be on the heavier side. While most people will download MP2 to "check it out", we need to know what you think, so please help us by filling in bug reports. Find out how here. You can have MP2 installed and working along side your MP1 installation. Have no fear that looking at MP2 will harm your MP1 setup. There are not many plugins supported for MP2 as of yet, so do not think that MP2 is ready to replace your MP1... remember this is an Alpha Release.
